All right, ladies. There don't seem to be any threads that capture the entire 30-Day Shred experience, so I'm here to start one. Join for motivation etc. We'd love to collect Before/Progress/Results pictures! Also, when judging progress I hear it's better to use measurements than weight, since we'll all be getting awesome six packs and those things are heavy
.
I am starting the program tonight, but if you started recently or plan to start, you can post here as well! I'll post a picture tonight, but for now, here are my measurements:
Bust: 37.5
Waist: 29
Hips: 42 (where my trochanter sticks out :( The top of my hips are 38!)
Goal: 37.5/28/40 (really 38, but I'm not sure that's physically possible. . .)
I will post a pic later today too, I'm starting today as well!
Measurements:
Bust: 37
Waist: 28
Hip: 38
Good hunting to all of us !!
I will take my measurements tonight when I get home. I've done 30 day shred a few times over the past few weeks.
I will be out of town from Saturday of this week to Sunday of next week. I'm taking my DVD with me and will try to do it daily (since I won't have another workout option).
Planning on doing level 1 again tonight.
haha we're close!
Daz' cool too! You'll just have to tell us how you feel as you go =D
@Keltaena: Do you have to have weights to do this? Amazon has it for a good price, I think I might buy it and join in!
It says you need small hand weights on the back of the dvd case (dunno what small means? maybe 5 lbs?)
@mittens111211: Yeah. I ordered mine from Amazon yesterday and got 1-day free shipping because they were nearby! I got 3-pound ones as a starting point--I read that's what they use in the video and that it's plenty to start out with. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000I1BR6M
@Keltaena: I was going to buy them anyway so I think that's a sign that I should be doing this with you!
I think I will do a couple of workouts without the weights and then add them in, in the past I've over done it with the weights and then I can't do anything for 2 days because I'm so sore!
@Keltaena: hehe, we need to stick together!
I was just getting ready to hit the order button on amazon but I think that we have a 20 minute preview workout of the 30 day on our DVR, I will have to check that when I get home. Maybe I can start tonight!
I will measure when I get home, and my measurements are going to seemed messed up because of this boy/ompa-lumpa type body shape that I have!
I will have to measure when I get home today too. I'm a lot bigger than you ladies. I'm trying to get to your size LOL
I'm getting so nervous about doing this tonight that I can't concentrate, lol.
@mwitter80: I hope this helps you out! I used to be a lot bigger, so I know you can make it!
@Keltaena: It does. I've already lost 105lbs, but now I'm stuck. I have been bouncing around this weight now for about a year, and I'm over it.
I've done the shred before, but started it again last weekend. For weights, I'd go more like 3 lbs. 5 might be too much, surprisingly, unless you already have pretty toned arms/shoulders.
What clothing should we wear for these pictures? Gym shorts and sports bra? Swimsuit?
@Keltaena: I'm kind of nervous too! lol. I'm trying to figure out if I want to do some gym time too, on top of this tonight but I think it might be too much.
@Keltaena: I've done a lot of Jillian videos, including 30DS--and thank you for inspiring me to do it when I go home today! She does a lot of floor work, so for me at least, it's important that my stomach is covered and that I use a mat. I typically wear comfortable shorts or workout pants, a sports bra, and a workout-friendly tank top. And wear shoes that are comfortable enough for you to bounce around in.
I got a Jillian Michaels set at Target that came with an exercise mat and a pair of 3-lb dumbbells. If you aren't ready to spend any $ yet, you can always start off doing level one (on Exercise TV on Demand if you don't want to buy the whole dvd) with 2 of your heaviest canned goods--I think I had two 16-oz cans of soup that I started out with.
I'm now feeling inspired to do the 30 day shred tonight. I did it on Monday and Tuesday and lost my motivation yesterday.
My measurements are:
Bust: 35
Waist: 27
Hips: 42
Hips and butt are my problem areas. :(
I do the Shred a couple times a week, alternating with other workouts--I'm trying to lose some weight and aim to work out about 6 days a week but am hitting about 5/week the past couple weeks, which is still better than I was doing before!
I really like switching things up so I guess I'm not really "joining" this, but wanted to say thanks to you wonderful ladies--you got me out of the house this toasty day to go for a run that I had really been dragging my butt on.
Tomorrow is a weights day, so I'll either be doing Shred or No More Trouble Zones. I use 3 pound weights for the hard circuits, 5 pounds for the less hard circuits, and for the ones I really struggle with I sometimes just use my body weight (blush). Gotta work up to being more consistent!
Anyway--thanks, all, for the kick in the butt! I'll be following along and stealing motivation regularly ;-)
I started on Monday! I hope this thread will help motivate me, thanks for starting it :) I can't find a tape measure though...I'm pretty sure my measurements are 36-28-39. I use three pound weights...the first time I tried it, I used eight and I thought I was going to DIE. Three is plenty!
DO NOT....I repeat.....DO NOT start with weights anymore than 3lbs. weights. I spend my days lifting kids in and out of pools, ballpits, and on to trapezes and I thought I was going to die when I used a 5lbs weight. I wish I had started with 3lbs because I probably would have kept with it.
I just finished Day 1, Level 1. It was not nearly as hard as I thought it would be! Now, don't get me wrong, I can feel it, especially in my legs. I tend not to work them as much as I should because I have a shitty knee. I had a lot of trouble with all the jumping jacks. I ended up not spreading my legs much because it was just a bad idea. I'm a little worried that the other levels will introduce things I just can't do, and I won't get the full benefits. But, I shall do my best!
The 3 lb weights were good. I found them a little too light with some of my stronger muscles, but just perfect for weaker ones. A good starting point.
Here are the pics. Ugh, I look even worse than I thought. I can't believe I went to the pool yesterday, lol.
All right, ladies. Please don't leave me hanging out all by myself in a swimsuit. . .
I just finished day 1 workout 1 as well. It was tough for me, but I was happy to get throught it :) At times I wanted to quit and take a breath but I didn't. I took the dog for a mile walk too. I dont really feel comfortable putting a pic up of me in just a swimsuit. I'm 200lbs and I recently just grew into a size 16 and I'm not comfortable. I took my measurments and it makes me sad, but I think it's important to be honest so that I have your support in helping me.
Bust 46
Waist 34
Hips 46.5
@mwitter80: Of course! No worries. I used to be a size 16, so I know how you feel. I might take my pictures down, I feel pretty self conscious about them! It was just for people who want to (murmer said she would, so I don't want her to be alone!), and I know when I was researching I wish I had more before/after pictures, so this is for the future, haha. Do you think I should take it down? I just want to be helpful. . . In other news--- Way to go getting through the first level! Which part did you have the most trouble with? I kept thinking the exercise was over because of something Jillian said, and then found there was more left, and then I was like, aww crap! I wanted to be done. Very annoying! I found the ab work the easiest and the cardio the hardest.
Yikes. I just noticed I posted the same picture twice. Definitely coming down.
Ugh... Ok... Here are my measurements:
38 bust
30 waist
44 hips
I want to get back to
36 bust
27 waist
39 hips (honestly I'd take anything 40 or under)
No 30 day shred yet tonight. Just had a big dinner. Have to pack in a bit. If this food in my stomach settles before 10pm I will do one late night workout. Taking my dvd to London with me though so if I don't do it tonight, I will do it while I'm there.
@KatNYC2011: I feel you on the hips! Good luck on your trip; we'll be here for you when you get back.
I've been doing the 30 day shred for about 2 weeks, but I am still on level 1. I don't feel that I've been giving it my all. I HATE cardio!!!! Lunges are are also really hard but I'm going to just do it!
I don't have measurements, but I weigh 145 and my goal weight is 120.
Thanks to everyone for the support! What a great bunch of ladies!
@Keltaena: I think before and after pictures are very helpful. I don't have a full length mirror so I don't have a full lenght picture to post.
The hardest part of workout 1 for me are the side lunges with the arm raises. The lightest weights I have are 5lbs and my arms are SO weak I have to do those without any weights.
Is working out too close to bed a bad idea? Anyone know? You guys are inspiring me, but I need to wait at least an hour or I might lose my dinner.
@Keltaena: Don't take it down. It's perfectly fine. It's something for me to strive to get to!
I thought the abs were almost too easy. I think I'm going to do some extra ab stuff. That's my biggest problem area anyway. I thought the cardio was the hardest too. It was funny because it was harder in the first set. The jumping rope almost killed me. LOL
@Keltaena: Thanks! I just hate how there is such a HUGE difference between my waist and hips. My butt just looks so wide from the back, even some muscle definition would help I think.
@KatNYC2011: I just realized yesterday that the bottom half of my butt is a size (at least) larger than the top half. . . As for working out before bed, I think it depends on how you respond to exercise. Sometimes I feel energized and other times I just want to go straight to sleep. I would say have at least 45 minutes before bedtime. I had an ex who used to work out right before bed all the time, though.
@Keltaena: I think I'm going to take a night off. I've worked out every day this week so far and I have physical therapy (which might as well be working with a personal trainer at this point) tomorrow so I'm just going to focus on getting ready for my flight tomorrow.
I still have to pack.... I should get on that.
@Keltaena: I SHRED and run too. But have to say I thought the same thing too about it not being as hard after I finished the first day/frist time.....UNTIL the NEXY DAY! When then next day hit me my muscles and body hurt! And this is coming from a person who is in relatively good shape and runs. As the day went on the hurt went on.
Hopefully this wont be the same for you too :?
@KatNYC2011: Sounds good. Have a great trip!
@irishbride2be: Yeah. I already work out a lot (although not running because of my crappy knee), and I also stretched a lot more after the video. I'm hoping that will pull me through. I'm going to be doing it again in about 13 hours!
I just finished my day 1! It wasn't super bad, I used 5lb weights and will be most definitely searching for 3lb weights tomorrow!!
I will post pics tomorrow, my FI came home early from work and I didn't want him to see me taking pictures of myself and laugh, haha! It was hard enough to try to work up the courage to do the stupid workout with him in the house! He had to promise to stay in the computer room and play video games =)
Now that I'm done and showered I'm going to go join him but I wanted to check in, so glad so many ladies are drawing inspiration from this thread, maybe it would be easier to post before/after pics ONCE we are at the 30 day mark- that way we don't have pictures of ourselves we deem unflattering up for 30 freakin' days!! haha. I'll do it though, if that's the will of the ladies!
I'm about to do Day 2. I really don't want to. But for you ladies, I'll do it!
ETA: FI is joining me!
@Keltaena: why dont you want to do it? But, hey I like the fellow bees doing it together! It feels like a support group, LOL :P
