Hi! I’m a new bee. newbee. newby.
I fell in love with this dress, and bees, it is ART. Of course, it’s also in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC… Have you seen the vintage Dior “Junon” dress from 1949? If not, follow this link to it, or google it, and be prepared to drool a little… http://www.metmuseum.org/toah/works-of-art/C.I.53.40.5a-e
Zuhair Murad did an imitation of it that Miley Cyrus wore, the last time she wore anything… http://stylefrizz.com/200902/miley-cyrus-in-zuhair-murad-dress-for-oscars-2009/.. hate the belt, but love the homage.
I’ve been in love with this dress for years. The original, I mean. and I recently got engaged, and handed the perfect reason to wear a dress-that-is-art! I’m also a middle class working girl with a middle class family and middle class budget. I’ve been trying on dresses and secretly dreaming of the Junon dress. I stumbled across the possibility of having a dress custom made from some of you bees!
I did a little research, and pulled together some pictures of exactly what I’m looking for, which is the Junon dress, in white, with a sweetheart neckline bodice, slightly longer bodice, and a corset style back. I sent my “dream dress” to dressilyme, chantilly and tulle, jasmine’s and a few other of the online dress sites that offer knock-offs or imitations, etc.
Turns out, my “dream dress” is a little bit impossible, or $12,000 and a years worth of time… Almost every dressmaker sent me back a flat out “no.” HOWEVER… the Fabulous U sent me back suggestions. They suggested that I let them use pre-beaded lace appliques along the petal hemlines instead of bazillions of glass beads and sequins hand sewn by tiny fairies. They sent me pictures of what they meant, and they agreed to my every request, query, and silly question. Their customer service thus far has been absolutely top-notch. They get back with me quickly, usually within minutes, and they are always helpful and clear.
So, I ordered my dream dress for $500, with free shipping, a free veil, and a free artist rendering of my custom design. I’m going into this adventure with an open mind, knowing full well that I may hate it, or it might not meet my expectations, or that it might not fit, or something that might render it un-wedding-worthy. I’m totally ok with that, I’ve loved this dress for so long it’s absolutely worth the try. I’ll be happy to keep you bees updated, and if I can figure out how to post photos, I will!
