- Wedding: October 2013
I’m so excited! Things are finally coming together! And for what we wanted, sort of.
So FIs parents gave us the option, they would pay for our reception or pay for our honeymoon. Since we already had a lot of things covered for our reception (ok maybe not a lot but quite a bit) we went with the honey moon. It’s a 4 day cruise (since I don’t want to spend too much time away from my 4 year old) so we are doing the reception ourselves, which I already planned.
So up until today we had a few things figured out. First I won a contest for a free engagement shoot (a newly out of school photographer trying to get her name out there) and we really like the pictures so we decided to hire her for the wedding, and she’s new so she’s only charging $150. So photography check.
FI is a drummer in a band so he asked the guitar player to play acoustic at our wedding, so music for free check (it’s good mellow music) and the girlfriend of the guitar player is playing the ceremony music.
Fis uncle works at a printing store so you guessed it, the save the dates (and soon the invitations) were completely free.
Fi’s grandmother used to make wedding cakes for a living and retired but still has everything so yup… She’s making out wedding cake for free!
So them my co worker who is the restaurant manager (I don’t work in the restaurant though) has offered to cater for free, saying she would cook all the food and all, we would just have to pay for the food. We liked this idea until we heard our favorite local restaurant had a better deal. For all the barbeque, chicken and tons of sides and desert, it’s only $400 for enough for 100 people. So food done 🙂
Then I get to talking with the sales department at my work. Told her the deal with the reception or honeymoon, and she says just so we can go on our honey moon she will give us the banquet room at our hotel for free for the reception. FREE. Tons of people always use it for the reception, it’s a nice space and fits up to 100, our list is about 75. But along with the free space we have the free chairs, tables and all of the food set up.
So talking to her again today I told her yes I want the banquet room for the reception and all and she gets it taken care of. Then I ask her about the water view in front of the hotel, how much the company (as it’s rented out by someone else not our hotel) how much they charge for the space for the ceremony, since it’s only 1/2 a football field lendth away from the hotel (and it’s absolutely beautiful, large oak trees all throughout but opens up to a beautiful river view) and she says for a ceremony she can get it for only $150!!! Her discount because she’s in sales so she’s setting it up for us for only $150.
So mu budget of about $8,000 looks like it will be able to be smaller and will be about $5,000 instead, maybe even smaller. But it’s not going to seem cheap, it’s only going to be cheap because well when you live in a small town, connections are a big factor and apparently I have some good connections here.
So what all are you saving money on? How is the planning going? Not too much longer now! I’m so excited we have the locations picked out now, now it’s time for invitation making!!!! So where are you at in the planning stages? What are your plans?
