Hey ladies!
I know there's a thread out there for the "30 Day Shred" but for those of you who may have done that one before and are looking for a new challenge, I wanted to start a "Ripped in 30" thread!

I started the DVD yesterday - I am doing it only on weekdays, so each level for 5 days. I have used 3lb weights so far, but may up it to 5lbs for some of the exercises in hopes of seeing results more quickly...
Who's in??
Once DH and I get settled in California (probably a week from yesterday) I'm in! I love Jillian's DVDs because they aren't super pricey, so I might invest in this one to do on top of running!
@Navy_Wife - that's what I'm doing, combining this with running. I really should run more than I do, I used to love it and it was such a stress reliever for me. With this video, I figure that I really can't make an excuse for a 25 min workout. I should be able to find 25 minutes in my day for ME!
I'm in! I've only done level 1 of Ripped in 30, and I did it a while ago, but I'm ready to get back. I got in good shape for my wedding, and even though I've only gained 4 lbs since, I want to get back--and I feel like Jillian's videos combined with the elliptical are the only things that completely get rid of my love handles and jiggly arms.
And this is pretty minor, but I think when I did it before, it was more like 35 minutes and not 25? It was longer than 30 Day Shred (one of my favorites).
@Pomapoo - I know what you mean, I got ALMOST to my goal weight by my wedding, but then gained back some pretty quickly thanks to too many yummy frozen drinks on the honeymoon... 15lbs gained between the honeymoon and the holidays :(
DH and I are heading back to Mexico for our anniversary and I want to be in better shape than I was on my honeymoon!
Oh, and yes, with the warm-up and cool-down I think it's right around 30 min. (18 minutes for the three 3-2-1 circuits, + 5 min warmup, + 5 min cooldown).
i am interested to learn more about this? i need to lose at least 5 pounds by auguat 13th so i can fit into my dress for my at home reception!!! so i am willing to try anything. what is there and where can i get it?
@PurpleUnicorn - I got mine at Target, but I've seen it at WalMart and online too (Amazon usually has it the cheapest!). It's a dvd with 4 workouts, each one progressively harder than the previous. The idea is that you do each level for a week. Personally, I'm doing it just on weekdays, but most people do it for 6 days and give themselves a rest day.
There's also a meal plan you can follow, but I'm not doing that, since most of the stuff on the meal plan is not anything that my husband would eat, and I'm not cooking two separate meals! but if you're interested, here's the link to the meal plan: http://images.agoramedia.com/jillianmichaels/cms/jillian-michaels-ripped-in-30-meal-plan-v.pdf
The reviews I've read indicate that even if you don't lose a ton of WEIGHT, the big thing is that you lose inches and feel "lighter and tighter" which would be great for fitting into a dress!
I took "before" pictures and measurements and will be tracking them on my blog.
I'm in! I bought the DVD a week or so ago but hadn't opened it yet...but I'm 26 days from the wedding! I went running 4 miles this morning but want to start the DVD tonight.
I bought mine at Costco.
@philabride2bee! Welcome to the group! I figure if we all check in on here, it will keep us motivated. I have 60 days til I hop on a flight to Mexico and I wanna be RIPPED! Nice work on the 4 mile run!
@7SEVENJ9: Thanks for the post! I'll be looking into this tonight.
@vmblai1019 - sure thing! I think it'll be great to have this group to be accountable to - it'll keep me going for sure (I hope!).
Also, I just realized I put this in the "wellness" section, but could someone move it to the "fitness" section? Thank you!!
Woohoo - three days done of Level 1! I'm only doing it weekdays, so two more days of level 1, kind of nervous about a week of level 2!
^bump^
Let's get some more ladies (and gents?!) involved, who's up for a challenge?!
I did Day 1 last night! I love that there's such a good upper body workout, with triceps, biceps, shoulders...all to give me those buff Michelle Obama arms in my wedding dress! :)
@PurpleUnicorn: It's also available on iTunes (a lot of Jillian stuff is). I like it because I get it in my computer and in my iTouch. Both go everywhere with me, so it makes fitting in my workouts while traveling much easier than remembering my dvd and finding a DVD player.
@philabride2bee - nice work! I finished day 4 of level 1 today, and it's nice that I can already feel myself getting stronger. I've been trying to do the real pushups instead of the modifiers, and have been successful in at least one set of the circuit. I do have to drop to my knees for the second set, but want to work my way up!
@NDBee - great idea!
I'm also recently obsessed with www.bodyrock.tv, those are great workouts for the travelling bee!
Loving this DVD! I am breaking the rules a bit and doing each level 10 times. I typically take Tuesdays and Fridays off because there's no time on Tuesdays, and Fridays I like to be lazy, so in total it'll take me about two months to finish this. I am about halfway through level 3 and it's been great. Like a PP mentioned, I have not lost weight with this but things are fitting much better and there has been a lot of nice muscle definition. My calves are as hard as I remember them ever being, there are nice things happening in the ab area, and my arms are getting toned. I've recently started doing about 20 minutes on the elliptical beforehand to add to the workout and try and get the scale down.
Just this past weekend I wore a dress I bought a few months back and it fit SOO much better, almost to the point where I bet I could have gotten away with a size smaller than I have!
@EJeets10! Nice!!! I can't wait to get to Levels 3 and 4, though I am nervous! I just finished 5 days of Level 1 this morning and will move on to Level 2 on Monday. Are you doing just this DVD and the elliptical or are you combining it with other workouts to see the results you mention?
I felt like every time I tried doing a "30 days in a row" or something like that, I set myself up for failure because it's so hard for me to keep routine on the weekends. I figure if I tell myself I have to do it every day during the week, if I do stuff on the weekends, it's just an added bonus.
Movin' on to Level 2!
@7SEVENJ: I went from not working out at all for about three years (TERRIBLE!) to pretending to go to the gym for a few months with absolutely no results. Only since starting this DVD and doing nothing else except for trying to eat a tiny bit better have I seen results. And now with the extra cardio I'm hoping to see even more.
I felt the same way about needing to do it in 30 days, so I figured I'd just really stretch that out and do each one 10 times. If I miss a few days I'm not going to beat myself up about it, just as long as I get right back into it and stay motivated.
I was scared to start level 2 but it was fine once you get into it, but I actually like 3 even more. It's not easy, but it seems to go by really quickly.
@EJeets10 - Yeah, I was there a couple of years ago - hadn't done ANYTHING in ages, and then pretended to work my butt off and then complained when nothing changed. I love Jillian's dvds, the push me.
When I first got this DVD, I did L1 on day 1, L2 on day 2 and L3 on day 3.. and it was BANANAS. Now I'm doing it more "as suggested" by building up before advancing to the next level.
I really want to get fit for my trip to Mexico, showing some abs would be awesome, since I am convinced that I have a 6-pack hidden somewhere in that cooler hahaha!
Finished Day 3 of Level 1 last night...I was SHOCKED by how sore my legs were during the warm-up! Might be partially due to the combination of running in morning plus video at night on the first two days. I'm a little worried about motivation to get the workouts in this weekend. However I will say that doing this workout at night does wonders for my ability to fall asleep quickly since I'm so worn out and don't want to move.
@philabride2bee - that's why I committed to only weekdays. I am notoriously sucky at working out on the weekends, so setting myself up to fail is not really on my "to-do" list!
@NoMoreStew - good luck! We can do it!
@7SEVENJ9: Thank you for the meal plan link! Im not doing Ripped in 30 (yet). I just started the 30 Day Shred and want to do this one when I finish. I have no idea what to eat now! Im trying (really trying for the first time) to eat better and less. I think I've been doing ok, but Im sure I can do more.
I hope I can stick with the meal plan. I wanna be shredded first and then get RIPPED!!
Good luck to all, sounds like a fitted group of bees. Keep it up! :)

@MrsFernandez, welcome! I'm glad you found the meal plan helpful - the nice thing is that it all seems reasonable to make - there are no "weird" ingredients that you can't find everywhere! I really like 30 Day Shred - good luck!
Today is my "Day 1" of Level 2. I could NOT pull myself out of bed to do it this morning so I have to do it right after work today before I go to dinner and a movie with my mom. I MUST do it.
Okay, it's about 90* outside and humid... which means it will be equally hot in my basement... I'm really wishing I made myself get out of bed to do my workout this morning while it was cooler...
I can do this, I can do this, I can do this...
You'll feel so much better once you're done! Just have plenty of water on hand. I skipped yesterday for no good reason at all and am not happy about it.
I'm in as soon as I buy it! May swing past Target tonight on my way home...
@EJeets10 - I'm leaving work in a few minutes and plan to go straight home, get changed and run into the basement to get this done. I'm fading fast here at work, literally trying to keep myself awake at my desk...
@cheapchicbride, welcome to the thread! Good luck in this challenge! Today's a perfect day to start, being the first of the month!
@cheapchicbride:I'm starting it today too, good luck! Oh, I see you live in IA. I just moved to Des Moines from Michigan. :)
@NoMoreStew/cheapchicbride: how did it go?
Today was day two of Level 2 for me... I did a lot of the modifier moves. Yesterday I tried to do the "advanced moves" as much as possible and I was hurtin' today... BUT day two is done! Three more days of Level two, then it's on to Level 3!
Everything I've read says that Level 3 seems easier after Level 2 since there isn't as much plank... I can only hope!!!
Sooo much plank in level 2! Not too much in level 3, and when there is it's a piece of cake comparatively. I felt like level 2 hurt my wrists a lot even though I've never had wrist issues before. I have a bad knee, ankle and shoulder all from sports/dance related injuries in middle and high school that just won't go away but aren't affected by this workout, but level 2 just killed my wrists!
@EJeets10 - YES, I'm feeling like my wrists are KILLING me. Particularly in those "ab-hold to table" reps. I even tried holding on to my dumbells to keep my wrists straight, but then I kept wobbling!
@7SEVENJ9: It went well. I enjoyed it. I had been trying to do Insanity and it was just way too hard for me. This is more my style. :) Im slightly sore today but not to the point that I can't do the workout!
@NoMoreStew - I have never tried Insanity, but have been told that a lot of the moves Jillian uses are similar to those workouts - I just can't commit an hour or more every day to do a program like Insanity or P90X... 30-40 min is more my style!
I'm buying my copy today after work! Feeling very motivated! Do you ladies still go to the gym? Or just do the video and do cardio outside? I'm thinking about canceling my membership
