I didn’t really receive anything awful this year, but I did give my brother a waterflosser … and he apparently already has a waterflosser. In my defense, I wrote on the card that the gift was from “terrible present Santa.”

My brother’s gf asked me what I wanted for Christmas. I told her a leopard print infinity scarf. Easy enough right? She ended up getting me this fur thing from Claire’s…. the hole is so small it fits like a choker & the animal print on it looks a lot like raccoon. It’s terrible. She’s legit the worst gift giver ever.

My FI’s brother got him a bunch of movies that arent even remotely movies he’d be interested in watching. They’re all the random movies you find for $2 at Walmart that have no known actors or directors in them and the acting is really terrible.

@Chrysoberyl:  FI and I both got mini flashlights from his aunt and uncle.  They’re camo – mine’s blue camo, his is green.  We live in the Washington, DC area…obviously camo is a must here, as it’s so rural!

And while it’s more of an engagement gift than a Christmas gift (his parents hosted an engagement party for us while we were back visiting last weekend)…a couple from my parents’ church got us this silver cross to hang on the wall with the “love is patient, love is kind” verse on it with two rings in the middle…it’s pretty, but neither FI nor I are practicing Christian.  I used to go to my parents’ church (when I was a child!), but I haven’t attended church regularly in almost a decade…and FI and his family are atheist.  It’s not gonna get displayed or used…sigh.  Hoping to regift it someday!

@Chrysoberyl:  My grandma sent me a countertop canister kind of jar. It’s pretty enough. I opened it and there was a small jewelry box. I thought “Score! I’m getting some of her jewelry!”

Well…inside was a strange little light blue stone, kinda large, maybe 1.5-2 carat equivalent, very perfect-looking–almost fake. I thought it might’ve been an aquamarine and starting thinking of the kinds of settings it would look good in.

I called to thank her and ask about the stone (she’s on the other side of the country) and she said she “thinks it’s a real aquamarine” and told me some crazy story about how she acquired it. “But,” she says “…on second thought, it’s probably fake.”

Thanks for my canister at least?

ETA: she also mentioned that she had a large black pearl that she was going to send instead, but her DOG ATE IT and it was no longer available. :/

She’s kind of a space cadet.

@Chrysoberyl:  I got an ornament that had my name spelled “Meghan” instead of “Megan.” Knowing full well how to spell my name since they have known me for 4 years AND spelled my name right on all my gifts and cards, they still spent $1.00 on an orgnament they KNEW was spelled wrong, but, because it was my name, it works right? Wrong. It went in the garbage.

@Chrysoberyl:  I’ve been pretty lucky this year; same with the last few years. But, I have a tiny family so only get gifts from a few people, and I always know what I’m getting lol.

@megz06:  LOL hey you can send that ornament to me, I spell my name with the “h”. I was very impressed when FI’s dad got a stocking for me with my name on it & remembered the right way to spell it! (OT: It drives me NUTS when people I’m friends with on facebook spell my name wrong on cards & stuff. There’s NO EXCUSE for spelling a name wrong when you can so easily look it up online!!!)
