I recently found out about this art project by an Italian artist named Anna Utopia Giordano. It is called the Venus Project. She basically took some of the famous paintings from the Renaissance era that depicted naked women, with their full hips and bellies and smaller breasts (example the Birth of Venus by Botticelli, seen below), and then she used photoshop to reshape the women to fit with today’s image of what we deem to be beautiful, she thinned out their hips and bellies and made their breasts bigger. She then displays the paintings side-by-side. I really was amazed that the justiposition of the two paintings really makes you appreaciate a woman’s cuves. It made me look at pear shaped bodies in a whole new way!
I thought some of you might be interested as well. Here is a link to a blog that discusses the project (the link has another link to the artist’s website): http://joannagoddard.blogspot.com/2012/02/venus-project.html
Enjoy, and happy Friday!!
