I've attended a wedding there. The food was amazing! But I do have to say that the couple went all out - the cocktail hour had lamb chops, raw bar, etc. etc. and the main entrees were surf and turf. Everything was delicious.
I haven't been to the Yale Club but I've been to the Cornell Club and the food there is fantastic and so is the staff!
Our friends had a wedding there last year and it was gorgeous! I agree that the cocktail hour was to die for.
I've been to two weddings there. One was a cocktail party wedding - which was a few years ago. If they were to have 'packages' I would say this was the lower end - mostly cheese and a few passed appetizers. Everything that they served was fine. The venue of course - beautiful.
I was also at a wedding there about three months ago - definitely an over the top affair with the raw bar and crazy fun food at the cocktail hour. The entree itself was great, as was the appetizer, and we all fought over the desserts - they were fabulous. The wedding cake however was TERRIBLE. So terrible that my husband and I still talk about it three months later...and I"m not even a cake person, so it's not like I was really looking forward to it.
We wish that we had stopped eating when they served the regular dessert.
Of course if the cake is not part of the contract at the Yale club - you won't run into the same problem. If it is, I would ask if you can bring your cake in from elsewhere.
I went to a wedding there in April. The cocktail hour was awesome! The food was really good and I feel like there was a lot of it. I can't speak to the cake because we were all dancing so much, but they also set up a chocolate fountain outside the ballroom by the bar and had the best spread of dipping things I've seen at a wedding.
The venue is gorgeous - they took a lot of pictures on the stairs too which look great. I think I took a zillion pictures of the ceiling in the ballroom. I didn't go outside to the deck during cocktail hour though - the iron staircase that you have to use to get to it scared the crap outta me! LOL It's so close to Grand Central that they popped out and got a ton of pictures in GCT in about 20minutes.
I went to a wedding there in March. Everything was great, the cocktail hour was amazing. I'm sure you can tailor it to how you want, but there was food everywhere and it was in the library. The ballroom was beautiful and did not need a lot of decoration.
My cousin got married there this past June- it was a beautiful wedding and the food was delicious! They took picture on the rooftop as well as at Grand Central beforehand.
I've heard good things about it, except for its unfortunate affiliation with an inferior university. Go Crimson! 
Is the cake really that bad? I am having my wedding there next may and the cake is included, and I don't think that they give a cake tasting! :(
I went to a wedding at the Yale Club about 2 years ago and it was beautiful. Would you be doing it in the main ballroom? I think Yale Club has more of a hotel ballroom feel to it than Manhattan Penthouse, but the space, decor and interior are all very classic, tasteful, and quite pretty.
I went to a social event at Manhattan Penthouse and i remember they had some pretty amazing views. The room felt more like a downtown, loft space which would be a lot of fun for a wedding. They both seem to do tons of events, so I'm sure the service and amenities are comparable. I don't think you can go wrong with either!
I haven't been to a wedding at the Yale Club, but my fiance and I almost chose that as our location... the one thing that stopped us is there rules on vendors. You basically have to use the vendors they recommend, and they didnt seem to be very flexible on a lot of things... They may end up being fantastic, but I didn't want to be stuck in a box.
It was in our final 2 choices..but we decided to go with our other choice..The W Union Square....Manhattan Penthouse came in 3rd!

Has anyone been to a wedding here? How's the food? We like the space...but we also like Manhattan Penthouse so we are having a hard time deciding!
