So, this totally sucks. I’m having a courthouse wedding so I got my dress online from Modcloth. I’ve had it for months, and last week I took it into the tailor to get a loose seam repaired and have my slip hemmed to match it.
I picked it up today and was trying the dress on to check that the hem length was good. I asked Fiance to zip it up for me and the zipper broke!!! My wedding is this weekend!!!
I’m so sad about this. There is no way that I can fix it myself, it’s a plastic zipper. I’m going to take it to the tailor tomorrow but if they can’t fix it or replace it I’m screwed and I have to get a new dress.
Plus, our family is coming from out of town tomorrow night and we have tons of plans to spend time with them that don’t involve last minute dress shopping 🙁
Has anyone else had a zipper break? Do you think it can be fixed on short notice?

Just keep hunting Im sure someone will take pitty and be able to squeeze you in. If it was a plastic invisible zipper this totaly makes sense. Invisible zippers totally suck and should not exist in my mind lol.

Zippers break–but any tailor/seamstress can fix this (sometimes they fix the zipper itself, sometimes they rip it out and put in a new one). A lot depends on what happened with it but don’t panic yet! Thank goodness it was the zipper and not the fabric!!!

Any competent seamstress or tailor can whip this up in no time. I know I could do it myself in less than a half hour.
I am sure they will priorize you given that it is for your wedding.

Cry if you have to! Make them squeeze you in! Let us know how it turns out. Good luck! 🙂

I agree relax its simple. I have a couple of seamstress in my family and they have fixed dresses for me all the time. One of aunts ripped out and repalce the zipper, which was a heavy big one in my winter coat and it took less then an hour! I’m sure it will be all good! Good luck!

Oh, thank you bees! I feel better already. I’ll take it in first thing tomorrow and hopefully they can have it done by the end of the day or Friday morning. I might go out and look for a back up dress just in case.
It totally sucked though, it caused a big fight. I blamed him for breaking it then he said it was my fault for asking him to zip it up – ugh! I think the nerves are getting to me even though it’s supposed to be a simple wedding.
I should be thankful that it didn’t happen on the day of the wedding!
