We had a really old animated Santa and his tree on our front porch as part of our Christmas decor.  Last year it was all we had and it was our first married Christmass tree, it was given to us from my uncle (one of his clients was throwing away all their old decor and since this thing was decades old they figured it was trash, but he took it because he thought it was cute & gifted it to us since he knew we had nothing).

When you plugged it in, it played music that was way out of tune and the lantern Santa was holding would like up.  Anyway, I got home late tonight, just walked in a few minutes ago.  I pulled my car into the garage, came inside, went out the front door to check my mail....and our Santa was gone!!!  He was stolen!!!  Talk about heartbreaking, so sad that someone took our old little tree.  It's just so sad because of the sentimental value of it. Cry

Someone stole the reindeer mom and dad bought (the first Christmas decor of any kind) in the States when they first moved here. I have no idea what possess people do to these things. All that to say, we know how you feel.

So sorry!!! Me and FI used to live in a pretty bad part of town, and we never put anything outside and nobody else did either, and the ones who did had it out for a few days and then it was gone. People are so ridiculous anymore. GET YOUR OWN! lol

I feel bad that that happened to you. It sucks that people can be so selfish sometimes and not care about decent human beings.

Ugh I'm sorry to hear that :(  When I was younger, my parent's house was broken into and they stole boxes of old Christmas decorations from my parent's childhood, along with other more valuable things.  People are cruel.

    I'm so sorry!

I had a beautiful old wooden rocker stolen from my porch once.  It wasn't fancy or anything - but I had rocked my kids to sleep in it when they were babies.  Once they got older I moved it to the porch.  The sentimental value WAY exceeded the actual value and I hated that "violated" feeling I had...

That's terrible!  I'm sorry for you--especially because it was sentimental and can't be replaced.  You gotta wonder who is going around stealing people's Christmas decorations!

:( That stinks! And you are SO right, there are some for real grinches out there... working at a bookstore at Christmas is pretty much the worst thing ever. I would NEVER yell at someone because we don't have a book in stock, but people do and we kinda look at them like "well, you're an @$$" and then offer to call our competitor. We're on good terms with them, and they're on the other side of town so it's not like we compete that much.

I think people swipe things just for the "fun" of it. It's terrible. Hubby and I were on our honeymoon and we had a little door hanger thing that said "just married" or something and we had it on the hotel door and some people took it. Why? I have no idea- what are they going to do with it, unless the people who took it were part of the group that was there for a wedding? It wasn't very expensive and probably not worth anything, but it would have been a nice little thing for us to keep. But some dummies, probably drunk (the night before it went missing it was really loud in the hallway), just wanted to take it. Sorry to hear they took your little tree though. People suck.

We used to get grinched every Christmas at my parents house.  People stole our light-up Santa, our light-up Frosty, and they would even unscrew the bulbs out of old Christmas lights.  :(  It always made me sad that someone would steal our decorations.

Aww! I'm sorry. When I was younger someone was stealing lights off of peoples houses down the street. I think there was a light up santa that my mom had when she was a kid or something, that was stolen too. It's sad that people have to steal decorations!

I'm so sorry it was stolen!  I haven't had anything stolen myself but I can't believe that people think it is okay to take other people's things.

We had little light up stars that lined our drive way last year, until somebody cut one of the power lines that goes between the stars to make them light up. We can tell it was cut too because it was a clean break. People, seriously?!

I just don't understand what posesses people to do those types of things. Sometimes I am sad for the state of our society when there are those who steal Christmas decorations!!!

Seriously? What's wrong with people? There's been so many holiday decorations stolen in my area lately that the local papers have been writing stories about it. They're stealing Cresh's and whole Nativity scenes which really ticks me off. There was even one lady who went out, bought everything new, put it all back up - and they stole it... AGAIN!

    Mean people suck.

I hate when stuff like this happens. I currently live in an apartment so I take my wreath down when I go away for a weekend, and just having to think about doing that makes me sad that I can't trust anyone that lives near me! :(

So sorry your first christmas decor is gone. That sucks, really and truly. It's like losing "the special ornament" that you put on the tree first when you're a kid!

@Dancy- to be fair, it wasn't the smarted idea for the lady to put her decorations out again after they were already stolen once...

I know here in NYC people have to like chain their BENCHES to their stoops and stuff or else people will steal those. Totally a new concept to me when I first moved here.

Yup, some people are just heartless.

@crebre80: We could do that, but I figure I don't really want to reward someone for bringing back something that didn't belong to them in the first place.

@Querida: Yeah, the violated feeling is the worst.  It's just disgusting to think that these people stood on our front porch right in front of our kitchen window and next to our front door :(

People really are heartless! Try to think that even though the Santa and Tree had a sentimental value for you, maybe someone did it b/c they couldn't afford Christmas decorations of their own b/c they lost their job. I know it's really hard to think that way, but it might help to ease the sadness to think that someone else is now enjoying it that might not have had the opportunity before...

@2PeasinaPod: My godmother told me the same thing.  I was like, if they would have asked I would have bought them a tree so they wouldn't have to take mine, lol.

@Lillindy-so sorry that happened to you! How horrible. When I was in third grade, our halloween decorations were stolen and even though they weren't valuable it was really, really sad.

@Lillindy - Awe...I know! It's totally the sentimental value behind the decorations. And it's the fact that they were on your porch and violating you.

OK, I'm going to be the bad girl and tell you all that I've been one of those people! Embarassed

Sophomore year of college, during the fall, on my birthday, we were driving down the road and there was this scarecrow set up in someone's yard. He was HUGE. Like 8 or 9 feet. We took him and put him in my friend's SUV. We kept him all through college. Moved him to three different apartments. Named him Sammy the Scarecrow. And we took lots of pictures with him over those years LOL.

I would never even think about doing that now, and I feel so bad about it when I think about whoever lived there coming out the next day and seeing that he was gone... Frown

I so understand your pain. My dad's union had a craft show right after he died and I went to it and bought a reindeer. Our first year at the current home the reindeer was stolen along with a couple of other yard decor. I was heartbroken, too. Every year I brought him out, and every time I looked at him, I had felt a connection to my dad. Karma is a bad little wench though, and what goes around comes around, even worse.

That sucks!  My hubby and I bought two giant zombie hands for our first married Halloween this year, and someone stole ONE of them!  I'm almost more annoyed that they only took one --what are we supposed to do with half a pair of giant zombie hands??  Grrr.  I feel your pain.
