We keep it cold and I have lots of blankets and comfy sweaters. It’s the compromise that works for us.

We used to fight about it all the time. Mostly because he wants it at 60 in the winter, and I want it at 70. We agreed on 68 and covered the thermostat with a locked box. The box is so the kids don’t play with it, as it’s really low. Last summer, our 3 year old turned it all the way up, and the heat was on with the A/C units running.

cameobride :  For us, DH normally just turns up the heat too high or the AC too low.  I keep the heat at 68 maximum and AC on 76 minimum.  DH changes it when I’m not home, and I change it back when I’m home. lol. I pay the bill, so my excuse is that since he never sees how running the heat or AC all day affects the bill, I get to be as energy efficient as I want.

This is our war, for life.

i like it as cold as Antarctica he likes it as hot as a condo in Hell.

There is no compromise that works. We just continue to press buttons constantly while the other isn’t watching.

torture.

I hear you girl.

Yes, even after all these years, DH and I sneak around behind the other’s back switching the thermostat whenever the other is not looking. I leave the house in the summer and he turns it up (or turns the AC down). We’re pretty well settled during the winter, as we keep it at 68 when we are home and then have it automatically go to 60 when we leave in the morning. But summer is torture. Fair is fair, and I think 68 is a good year-round temperature, but DH wants it warmer in the summer. I argue that I am comfortable at 68 in the winter, what would make me comfortable at 74 or even 72 in the summer? And I can feel it, even if he turns it up to 70. I walk into the house and I can tell instantly! I have a very narrow window of comfort.

he runs hot and I enjoy wearing sweaters, so for the most part we’re OK.   If we had AC we’d fight over that (has happened in past apartments) but um.. “luckily” for us, no AC… :-/ heh

We are fine with the thermostat, we both like it OFF at night, but I like a big thick down comforter and he like a thin quilt because he’s a blast furnace and sweats while he sleeps.

Cheekie0077 :  BAHAHAHAHHA. This is hilarious. I do the same damn thing. We are more on the same page MOST of the time but whenever I am opposite from how he is feeling…… I just walk from the family room like im going into the kitchen and BOOP, press that button 3 times on my way, and very casually liek I’m just stretching my arm out. And I always feel so cool about myself after, like I am super sneaky and witty….but i’m not in this case. It usually takes him an hour to be like: Hey wait, did you do something with the temp? 😂 Men……..

Yep. This is life! I change into warm clothes and sweatshirts the second I get home! Today set a record for how hot it was outside, and as soon as I walked in the house, I was freezing! I have two blankets on as I write this. If I raise the temp, he starts sweating buckets!!! Especially at night. It’s not cute! I am shaking with cold and he’s soaking the bed. There’s really no happy middle. 🙁

I like it cool. FI toasty warm. We’re having a bit of a heat wave right now but he insists on having the furnace running. He hasn’t figured out that I’ve turned the gas valve off….
