Anyone else having thermostat wars? Whether with co-worker, roommate, husband or whoever!

My colleague and I are the only two in the office and she is ALWAYS COLD. It is 85 degrees outside and it's super humid. The thermostat is ON HEAT SET ON 77!!!!!! Am I over reacting here?? I'M SWELTERING! But, I keep my mouth shut, and turn on my little fan... but it never fails -- when she gets cold, she gets up, walks to the thermostat and says "I'm cold! Did you touch this?!" (I never ever touch it because I'm sick of her complaining... doesn't stop her)

    ***super sigh***

I'm always cold.  I wear sweatshirts in summer.  I hate shorts.

I'm always freezing but our thermostat doesn't even work so I couldn't change it if I wanted to. Some of my coworkers have space heaters - perhaps you should suggest that? :)

At home I just always have a blanky.

So, no real wars here. I'm in a high rise in Philadelphia, so I can't really control the thermostat. But, I do have an illegal space heater under my desk :o) It's always freezing in here, so I went out and bought one. I turn it off every time I leave my desk to be responsible, but it's almost always on while I'm sitting here. It's on now and it's 80 in Philly!

i'm always cold, but i suck it up and keep the thermostat of our apartment low to save some energy (and money on heating bills!)  my roommate however always turns it up cause she "can't stand the cold" (it's been set at 65 for crying out loud, it's not like we're forming icicles from the banisters).  i told her to get a space heater.  my biggest pet peeve though is that she leaves it on when she's not at home all day and when she's sleeping ... I usually turn it down when i leave in the morning or before i go to bed, so we aren't over heating an empty apartment (no pets or anything).  I've come home from a work trip or long weekend away on more than one occasion however and found the apartment empty, but the heat on like 75 ... and i just know it's been left like that allllll the time i've been gone.  and then she has the nerve to complain about how high the heating bills are those months!!

ETA: I second the recommendation of a space heater for her.

79 in my office. It is RIDICULOUS. I'm wearing jeans and a tank top. We have to get the facilities people involved and it is a huge pain.

One of my coworkers is going through menopause, which mean she is always sweating. She bought us all space heaters for Christmas, so she can control the thermostat. It's gone well so far.

@ribbons I also always have to have a blanket at home!  My husband thinks I'm crazy for using a blanket when it's 90 degrees outside.. But that's what happens when he blasts the A/C at 68 degrees.

My fiance would leave the apt at 55 or 60 if he could. I am always freezing... I get cold (and stay cold) if I put ice in my drinks let alone with the AC on all the time. It doesn't help that our dog is a cold weather dog - great pyrenees lots of fur and always hot.

My FI says they out number me so I just tease him and say I can never run around in lingerie or be naked for that matter if its always so cold haha

Haha the only war is the one I wage with myself. FI is pretty much fine whenever. If he's hot he strips down to his tank top, if he's gold he gets a blanket, he leaves the thermostat alone. I, on the other hand, keep changing my mind. I can't find the RIGHT temperature (yet!)

We SERIOUSLY have temperature issues. I'm always cold, but he complains that I radiate gobs and gobs of heat, thus making him boiling hot. Can't win!

My Fiance keeps the thermostat set at 78 degrees in the hot, humid, indiana summer and at 65 degrees in the winter, except the ac/heat doesn't work well so my room is like 80 degrees in the summer and 55 degrees in the winter (yes, that's correct), all for the money. I use heating blanket, quilts, and big down comforter in the winter.  My ideal temperature is 70 degrees.  I had an old roommate that loved humidity, her boyfriend and I had to beg her to turn on the a.c. when it was close to 100 degrees in our apartment, finally her boyfriend (now fiance) snapped and turned it on...I still can't figure out people who love that!  I mean, I have hypothyroidism and get cold easily but 100 degrees!

i'm usually always freezing at work! i think its set at 76 and i wear my northface jacket sometimes. then i get hot and take it off, then get cold again. i'm weird.

at home i love being cold when i go to sleep though! luckily FI is the same (well sort of). In the winter he puts the heat at, no joke, 90 degrees. its so hot, i can't stand it. i usually open up the windows in January sometimes. ha!

That's insane.  I'm always cold, but I have a space heater under my desk and turn it on when I get too cold - you can't feel it unless you're sitting at my desk either.  The people in my office keep the ac pretty low so it's always freezing lol.

My husband and I don't have thermostat wars - we keep the temp around 73 at home.  But at work... ugh!

The temperature in my office ranges anywhere from 60 to 70 degrees.  I'm ALWAYS freezing.  I have a jacket AND a blanket I keep in the office.  It's currently 69 in the office, but it's 89 outside!  I actually HAVE a space heater, but I'm no longer allowed to use it because the last time I turned it on, it blew the circuit and my office and the office next to me both lost power (oops!).  So now I just sit here cold all day.  :(

We don’t have thermostat wars because FI knows I am the boss. Sometimes I get crap about this but it works for us and it’s how it is and will be. The house is mine, the down payment was mine and I pay 75% of the bills, and for 100% of the upgrades/renos.  Therefore all decisions are mine :D

At my FT job I have my own office so no one to bug me about temp. BUT my PT job that’s another story. The winters EVERYONE is freezing and summer everyone is HOT, besides like 2 people.

My guy refuses to touch a thermostat, and insists he does not know how they work.  I once told him that next time I go out of town without him, I'm letting him roast without a/c and see if he turns it on then:)  That being said, I can do whatever I want.  We have a thermostat for each floor, so I usually keep the main level at 77 in the summer and 65 in the winter, and same for the upstairs except when I sleep I have it set to go down to 72 at night in the summer.  I can't sleep when I'm hot!

Haha!! It's funny that you posted this because my co-worker and I always battle with the therapist that we work with over the temperature. He insists that it's ALWAYS hot in our clinic but seriously, it's 70 degrees... that's not hot when you're in an office all day!! So we go back and forth with changing the thermostat. He's even gotten so mad about it that he threw a big fit, kicked the chairs and cussed my co-worker out over it! I think that's why we keep doing it ;]

I’m always cold. At home I live in fleece pants and under blankets. I keep my car at 72. FH on the other hand – is always hot. His car is probably kept at 40 degrees LOL – all summer long he has the AC in his car blasting, and if we go on a long drive in his car, I bring a blanket!

At work, we all have individual offices, but no thermostats – and unless all 5 of us complain, maintenance usually says they can’t do anything about the heat/cold.  We all have space heaters, and most mornings I have mine going until lunchtime.

I'm with Miss Ribbons. I'm always cold and love to be comfy so I'm constantly sporting a blanket at home or a cardigan while in the office. My FI is always giving off 100 degrees of heat! Great for winter though! :-)

I'm almost always warm! My hubby and I like the same temperatures, so we have no issue with this. We keep our thermostat around 68-70 and we're both happy. My office is about the same so I'm happy, but I know others are cold.

BF pretty much lets me set the thermostat so that I'm comfortable... but luckily, if I'm hot/cold, he usually is too.

Haha this cracks me up!! We currently have thermostat wars since we moved into our first house because the furnace is old and we haven't had the first bill, so I'm afraid to run it very much. DH kept whining that he was cold but I had to keep telling him, "Sorry! Layer up!"

I'm always freezing! We battle most in the car, because at home I tend to be under a blanket all the time. I'm ridiculously cold all the time, partially because I have horrible circulation and low blood pressure. But hey, it makes summer more bearable! Except for how low people turn their air conditioning...

I'd give anything to be cold in my house! I'm always hot and uncomfortable. We live in Central Florida and the humidity is brutal. We keep the house at 78 in the day and 77 at night (to keep our electric bill down). I crank 2 fans at night as well! Ever since my pregnancy in '08, I've never felt normal again, temperature-wise. :( On the flip side, DH sleeps in a sweatshirt and socks with a comforter pulled over his head while I'm stripping my clothes off at 2AM sweating. Ugh!

Ohh I feel for you. Trying to work (or do anything) when its sweltering hot is the worst thing ever. I ALWAYS prefer keeping it colder - you can always put on more layers, but you can't take them off! Our office is always so hot in the winter because they crank the heat.

I'm the one who's always hot!  FI always wants to make the place warmer and I just can't deal with it because I'm already sweating!  He doesn't even want the air conditioning on in the summer, which I am putting my foot down on--A/C GOES ON FULL BLAST IN JULY AND AUGUST.

We don't have thermostat issues, we have ceiling fan issues!! (Most) Houses in my area don't have AC, only heating units, because we live so close to the beach. But at night the boy always wants the fan on and I pile on the blankets :p I am ALWAYS freezing and wear socks/slippers and a blanket in the house. Thank goodness for my seat warmers in my car :)

When I went to school in AZ I would have to bring a sweatshirt to class though because the AC would be on sooo high and I would freeze!

My ex had a Lexus and I loved it because the driver and passenger side could be set to completely different temperatures Laughing.
