Oh girls, Im in tears right now, home alone and I cant seem to get ahold of my FI to cry to him so here I am....
I ordred my dress back in Janurary. They told me it would be in at the very very latest April 15. Thats tomorrow. So I called today to make sure everything is all right and the lady looked up my name and I heard someone in the background go "it came in yesterday". And she told me "Oh it came in yesterday" I was sooo excited! Then she looked at the dress that came in, it was the exact same one from the same manufacturer but to a different girl. And I changed my wedding from May 15 to May 22 but the bridal store still thinks its the 15th because I dont want them now feeling like they have any leanency.
So the lady goes "Well I dont know what happened. I'll call the manufacturer right now and call you back. Well that was an hour ago and I'm dying in anticipation and crying my eyes out.
We ordered my dress 3 sizes too big because the sample dress fit and it was a 12 but my measurements said I needed an 18. So we ordred an 18 to be safe. And we are adding a train and cap sleaves. So we definety are doing LOTS of alterations.
Plus this dress is being shipped from Texas. Im in michigan......
Oh girls this a nighmare!
hang in there, honey....they can pull strings when they have to and aren't going to just leave you hanging as long as they are a reputable place. make sure you update us once you they call you back. Hopefully it'll be with a huge SIGH of RELIEF!!!!! :-)
*Deep Breath*
You haven't heard back yet so don't panic yet....I know it's super scary and frustrating!!
If all else fails...is it possible to buy the sample.....I hesitated typing that because your dress isn't officially lost yet! Don't panic and you're never alone on the hive! :)
okay, this is not fun news, but just hang in there! deep breath! i am sure the bridal shop is going to fix it. if they promised you the dress by april 15th, then they should rush-order another one for you. don't despair yet. i'm sure this can be worked out!!
Good luck. I would start shopping high end consignment stores in the meantime and be a very squeaky wheel!
Good vibes headed your way.
I hope everything works out for you. If they did indeed "lose" it, I would DEMAND (and I'm not really a "demand-er") them to remedy the situation ASAP.
I'm crossing my fingers that your dress will come in just fine, and everything will work out! What a headache - you don't need this sort of stress so close to your wedding! It's quite a coincidence that another bride ordered the same gown for the same day.
In the meantime, I know it would be awful not to get the dress you originally wanted, but perhaps you can start thinking about a plan B? I don't know if you're totally opposed to David's Bridal, or if that's where you got your gown in the first place (my experience with them has been great), but they may be able to help you find a different gown on short notice. I know about several brides who have done that.
Hang in there! Go listen to some soothing music. Things will work out.
I know it sucks waiting, especially for one of the most important pieces in the wedding. But you can do it, wait for them to call you and see what they can do. Maybe, they put the dress under the wrong name and it actually is your dress. I hope it all works out for you!! Let us know what happened.
I'm sorry this is happening. Hopefully they will call you and tell you that everything is okay.
UPDATE!!! So I ended up calling the lady since she didnt call me and her excuse was "well I was busy sorry". Ok whatever, anywho; Then she goes onto saying that she was put on hold by the manufacturer in Texas and the customer service sales rep. said that they havent recived the dress yet. (I was confused by this because its suppose to be being made right there at that company in Texas. How is it not there???) Then the bridal store lady goes on to tell me that she just ended up hanging up on the lady because she had customers in the store but she thinks that it will be another week before the dress gets here. SO CONFUSED I said "I dont think thats going to work for me" This is where she got REALLY ticked off at me and proceeded to say "Its not even the 15th!" I said "I know but I obviously wont get it by the day that YOU said. And that day that it was suppose to be here by, at the LATEST!" Then she tells me that she has to call the manufacturer back and then she will call me back AGAIN!
I finally got ahold of my FI during his lunch break and by this time I was sobbing so hard I could barely tell him what happend. So he tells me to give him the number of the bridal store and he calls the lady. She tells him that she just got off the phone with the manufacturer and my dress is actually made in China (Which I was never told) and the manufacturer in Texas is just the U.S. corp of this China based company. She also told him that they dont think my dress is in China anymore but the wont know because they cant call china since its in the middle of the night there.
So wheres my dress??? I have no clue. China??? Over the ocean in some plane??? Or Texas??? WHO KNOWS!?! She then tells my FI that she will Over night Fedex it once she finds out where it is and I will have it by this weekend and she will do all the alterations for free.
Why is this so shady to me????????
Oy!
I hope it all works out and at the end of it you gained by getting a lot of alterations for free!
You would think they would have a tracking # or something!
Methinks now I should call the bridal shop and see what's up with my dress. They said end of April!
Why couldn't she tell you this herself? Why did it have to take your FI to get this information? That sounds weird to me. But if what she says is true, it sounds like its in the middle of transport and the second they get the exact location, she'll have overnighted to them. I hope it all works out for you!!! ***HUGS***
ps. I forgt to add in that it's the 14th, it's like your calling a week before it's supposed to come in. Again, i hope your dress arrives safe and sound. On the bright side, at least, you get a free alteration out of this.
OHMYGOSH.
What dress did you order? (designer/style #) I live like an hour or so away from Dewitt, Michigan and will help you search on craigslist or at bridal shops in my area if this turns into an emergency dress situation.... that seems so weird that they would ship the dress from China, saying it was manufactured in Texas. This is like a nightmare! :( I'm sorry :(
Oh gosh, I really hope it works out just the way she says it would. I don't necessarily think it sounds shady. I think its her attempt to save her ass. She must of meesed up somewhere, and to make sure there isn't a huge scene, she's doing what she SHOULD be doing to make this situation a bit better for you. Try to remain positive!!
Hey noodlefish! Im actually from West Michigan, Muskegon area (Montague) and we got my dress in Grand Haven at Spring lake Bridal. I just live in dewitt right now for my FI job. (Although I did used to live here when I was little. Its confusing and beyond the point) Anyways! So Im pretty familar with the bridal stores but very willing to try more. I've already went to Beckers bridal and Davids. Didnt find anything too good. Is there anymore you can think of?????
@Kare7213 - keep us up-to-date! If it takes all the bees calling this store to find out where you dress is, I'm pretty sure we'll do it! We'll hound them into making you a custom dress in 2 weeks!
LOL Golilocks! Thanks! This is why I love the bee! We just understand eachother =)
Oh I am soooo sorry. I am sure that your dress is in transit and you will have it soon.
FYI... most dresses are made in China unless stated that they are not. All Maggie dresses are made in China.
I would just like to throw out a KUDOS to FI here, for taking the initiative to take matters in to his own hands!
hope you get your dress soon & wow..bonus free alterations!! that's the least that lady could do...I'm sending good vibes your way...
((Hugs))
I just dealt with a similar issue and was an absolute mess over it, and I'm sosrry you're experiencing something similar
Bottom line: the manufacturer can arrange for expedited shipping and construction of the gown. I wouldn't rely on the bridal shop to make this happen, but would instead contact them directly.
Well... I'm actually a bit west of Ann Arbor, and there are a ton of places around here. I was just wondering if your dress was a certain designer or something that could be purchased somewhere other than the original shop if need be. Because if it is, I could call/drive around this side of town and try and find a replacement for you if need be.
Hopefully your dress just shows up in the next day or so. I really hope that your bridal shop is understanding and accommodating.
Oh Noodlefish your so sweet! Well on my reciept it says "Marys Bridal" Thats all I can remember. I could of kicked myself this morning when I realized I couldnt find the reciept. But I looked up this Marys bridal and it is a bridal gown corporation in Texas. I just couldnt find my exact dress on the website.
I'll let you know if I'm going to need that dress from somewhere else! And thanks again! That takes a pretty special person to do something like that for a fellow Michigander bee =)
I don't know why I still continue to be shocked by the SHITTY service brides get. And dress stores have got to be the worst.
I think it is really good that FI is in this with you. Sadly, people often take men more seriously.
Best of luck, girl. We're pulling for you. And if they can't work it out, DEMAND the sample, cleaned, spruced up, and altered, at a reduced price.
I would see what their policy is if they don't get the dress to you in time. Look for your receipt! Did they have it in writing that it was guaranteed to you by the 15th?
Wow I'm sorry... they're probably willing to alter it for free & overnight it because they're late getting it to you. Keep us updated!
I'd say try on the sample again & agree with monitajb. I really don't understand WHY they would ask you to order 3 sizes too big if the size 12 sample fit you?? They make A LOT of money by doing alterations so that could be why. I'd get that in writing, go to the store & get something in writing. Maybe both you & a friend or your FI could go (just don't let him see a pic of the dress) & work something out in person.
You could always go to the store and ask in person that she call back the manufacturer...I bet she would be taking this a lot more seriously if there was a distraught bride in her bridal store....
Ok Ladies! UPDATE Numba 2!: The bridal store lady told my FI she would call me at the latest noon today. And its 12:30pm right now and no call. I'm giving her a little bit of slack and if she hasnt called by 2 then I'm going to call her.
My FI is 2 hours away today for a work conference and theres no way he could handle this with her today. I'm very proud of him for handling it yesterday but this lady needs to be straight forward with me and I want to handle this battle. Just because I'm a bride doesnt mean I'm a little psycho mess. Grrr....
Ok girls do I drop the nice act and call her right now and just go striaght to "hey lady whats up with my freakin dress???" Or do I cut her some slack and let her have today to deal with it too????
Ummmm.... WHAT???? I would have dropped the nice act a long time ago! This is a lot of money that you are spending for them to keep to their word. I would definitely speak to the manager and remind her of all of the alterations that are ahead! IT is THEIR job to get that dress to you in time..... They deal with bridezillas all the time... they will deal and fix it... YOU only get married ONCE! But then again, I'm kinda bridezilla....with two years to go....
GOOD LUCK!
Oh and I forgot to tell you all!, She tells my FI that we were the very first un-happy customers shes ever had and that all her brides leave the store happy. Ohhhh just thinking about this detail by detail is making my blood boil!
Ummm you have given enough slack to this rude horrible lady. Call again, ask to speak to her superiour and then demand your fing dress (at a discount no less!)
Personally I wouldnt call but i would make my mom or my FH call :D
There is plenty of time to fix this. Get yourself a glass of wine or a soda and take some deep breaths!
I'd go into the store myself, if its not too much of an inconvenience for you. Get things in writing if she promises something. I'm sorry you have to deal with this :(. Hopefully someone can go with you? Your mom or dad?
You need to call this woman. Not for nothing, but if this was HER dress, she would totally be losing her sh*t! If this were my dress, I would probably have already driven over to the shop, demanded to speak to the owner, and raised hell. This is YOUR and FIs wedding day... and she is being a terrible person! It's 2:00 now... has she called?
I am totally sending good vibes out into the universe for you. I hope that you have gotten all the answers you need already.
If we don't hear from you by 4:00, I will assume you've raided the brial shop.
It's 2! Have you called yet?
I am sure your dress is enroute somewhere! I hope they have a good answer for you today!
We all want to hear your update! I hope everything will be ok! If she won't have your dress, tell her she will have a bunch of angry "bees's" on her hands who are going to protest outside of her store. One of my friends getting married in NJ had ordered her dress (David's Bridal) and it came in and she went for her first fitting. After that the store flooded. They had to reorder her dress and ALL the dresses for that store. It came in in less than a week. Don't think that it takes months for a new dress to be ordered -- the stores just say that. I recently had a problem with my invitation lady who had been ignoring my calls and emails. Finally, I decided to tell her, if I didn't hear from her by X date, I wanted my deposit back. She called immediately. Be firm!!!
That would make my blood boil too. Obviously you are going to be unhappy if they can not give you a straight answer about your dress. That comment right there would have melted my niceness right off. lol. So did you find out anything yet?
