My daughter and I made an Advent wreath with her Catholic School yesterday and I LOVE the smell of pine!  Real trees make me smile :-)

I love the real but they are a lot of effort.  I think we're doing fake this year.

I LOVE real trees , but we have a fake that we'll probably use this year , it was only 35 dollars and we're thinking to save the cash this year.

After 2 years of a real tree.... we finally broke down and bought a fake one yesterday.  I can't STAND all of the needles that shed with a real tree... that and my cats literally climbed the real tree last year and my dog drinks the tree's water.  Our tree looks very realistic though... although I miss the pine smell!

We have a little fake charlie-brown christmas tree, since we have no room to store anything bigger.  Though there's nothing like the smell of a fresh tree..

We'll get a real one this year after using a fake one for the past few years. This will be the first time I've had a real one since I was a kid, and I'm super excited! And FI has never had a real one!

Fake.  We live in a tiny condo, so we're not even getting a full sized tree!  Just a table topper!  That and we'll be gone so much through the holidays this year that a real tree isn't practical.

Real all the way! My parents wanted to get a fake a few years back and I wouldn't have it. Has to be a real tree with white lights...

@offbeatbride: I saw them setting up around here too. All the trees were laying down, getting ready to be displayed at a local farm stand. I could hardly believe my eyes!

We swore we were getting a real one this year, but then I found a retro white aluminum look-alike (pre-lit! 7 ft!) on sale for $75, and I had to have it. Maybe we'll put a real one in the foyer.

The Hy-Vee around the corner has had real trees for sale for over a week! Crazyness!

I love real trees, but in high school my parents put their foot down and insisted on a pre-lit fake tree. Boooo. I don't have a tree of any type at my place since I live by myself in my little apt.--I don't have room and I go home for Christmas anyways. My mom got the Christmas tree in the divorce (I wonder how that got decided? ^_^) but she has, like, no holiday spirit, so I set it up and decorate it when I come home for Christmas and take it back down when I visit again in January.

Man. That sounds kinda depressing all typed out. ^_^ In our defense, holidays have never been a big deal in my family.

We go real all the way.  :)  Even though we also have a fake tree, we only bought it for our dorm days when real trees weren't allowed.  We always buy ours the day after Thanksgiving; I can't wait!

We have a fake tree, much to my dismay. Our first two Christmases together, we had real trees because I insisted. But with two cats climbing the tree, getting needles everywhere and the hassle of city living (dragging the tree up four stairwaysof a walkup building), we both agreed a fake tree was a good thing for a while, especially when we got it at 75 percent off at an after Christmas sale.

But my husband said that as soon as we move into a house someday, we can go back to real trees because we'll have more space and an easily accessible doorway.

i grew up with real trees and I LOVE them- their smell, their feel, their look, etc. However, living in the city in rented apartments, almost every single lease I have ever had (except for the one I am on now!) has had a very strong no real trees or real woody/piny bits clause. I am guessing its due to fire worries. So, we have a fake tree. I do like that they don't make the mess of real trees and require no maintence, but the look and smell will never be right. *sigh* And at this point, its less expensive to stick with the fake tree we've already got then to buy a real tree which, around here, costs $$. Plus, the bunny doesn't chew on the fake tree the way he would on a real one!

We always had real trees growing up and I looooooove them. I expect that when I am in my own house and I have a bit more money I'd like to do real, but until then I use a cheapo fake I got from Walmart for $20 a few years ago. :)

we have a fake tree for 3 reasons, we're in an apartment building (fire hazard!), i hate the mess, and most importantly, FI is allergic to pine!

fake trees have come a long way though, and now look quite a bit more "Real".

p.s. we're putting ours up this weekend!!!!!!!!!!! :)

i love real trees, but as of right now, FI and i are going with the fake tree. Its easier, no mess & no maintenance!!!  Someday when we don't live in our tiny apartment,  we hope to go real!

We have a fake tree because we live in an apartment where they don't allow real trees.  I can't wait until we have a house and we can have a real tree!

This year we're getting a fake tree because we really can't afford to get a real one...we're getting an itsy bitsy little fake one. Eventually, though, I definitely want to get a real one!

I have cats, dogs and a kid and you still can't break me away from a real tree. I will say though that I am ready to get rid of it the day after Christmas. I can't stand leaving it up forever and as it gets more dried out the needles fall more...FI likes to keep it up until New Years...argh.

I LOVE real trees but I voted for fake. I hate fake trees but I caved & got one a couple years ago. Real trees are harder to take care of - not only do we have a cat but we used to have a really hot, dry apartment too and I just don't have time for the maintenance. We went to Target Christmas Eve of '07 & bought one of the display trees - orig. $215 for $70. FI says it'll be like having our 1st Christmas tree every year. He's so cheeeeeezy! Haha.

I really miss the smell but I found that Yankee Candle's Christmas Wreath scent is pretty close and it's a strong scent for the house, so it's not too bad.  And, I will admit there's nothing more depressing than a trees on the curb after Christmas so at least we won't have that in front of our house.

The first weekend of December, we will bundle up, hop in the blazer, drive into the woods, walk around for hours in the snow, and cut down our very own, real, Christmas tree! Can't wait! :)

I used to be so anti-fake trees, but last year the Dude and I got a funky silver one, and I love it!  Now I want to buy more retro/metallic looking trees in different colors to group together in the house!

Good for you! It does kind of sound depressing though ;) But way to put the effort in and do it all! I'm sure your mom really does love it too!

we have a real tree...set it up tonight.  i prefer fake trees for the clean up issue, but since the place i just moved to is hardwood throughout, we'll just have to vacuum the rug near the tree a bit more often.
