What has happened lately that has eased your anxiety about waiting, or made you feel better about the process?
Last night, SO was doing dishes as I chopped veggies for dinner. He looked at me and was like, “Now, don’t get all excited, but…” which is basically code for “We’re about to have an engagement conversation.” My birthday is Monday, and while I knew the proposal wasn’t imminent due to financial reasons (and, I know where he keeps his mom’s ring, and I peeked last week to see if the box was still there – sorry, honey!), but we are celebrating Friday when we are both off of work (I start a new job on Monday – eeek!)
Anyway, I grinned wildly and he continued to tell me that he was thinking that before we go on our day trip, we could go into town and get breakfast, and then we could stop by the local jeweler to get my finger sized. We had it done earlier in the spring by a big chain jeweler, but he wants to be sure. He and I are starting on the road to lose a significant amount of weight (each of our goals is over 100 lbs but are just starting), and he is a little concerned about getting the ring re-sized only for it to be too big in a few months. I told him that I was okay with giving it a few months and waiting until September/October to get it done – my fingers swell with the heat anyway, and I feel like I will be down significantly by then, so it might make sense to wait. He didn’t really say anything, so I told him it was up to him. I tried to talk to him about a timeline, and while he doesn’t have a date or time of year in mind necessarily, he feels like it’s coming soon, and he wants to be ready – he wants to have the perfect way of doing it and he wants everything to be in order for when the time comes. He has alluded to us buying a house and setting a date in the next year anyway, but this makes me think that the proposal will be even sooner than that!
As we were sitting down to dinner, I asked him pointedly, “So, do you want to just wait until the fall?” His reply? “No, I don’t want to wait that long, lets do it on Friday.”
Cue giggling and squealing from me, and a grin and much head-shaking from my love.
