Here’s the background: I live in Hawaii, my wedding is in Washington, DC, and all my family lives on the east coast. So everyone is pretty uninvolved in wedding planning– I’m doing everything online and rarely consult other people (FI and I are paying for the whole wedding ourselves, which also contributes to making the decisions on our own, I think). There are no food tasting, venue visits, etc. since I’m so far away. But my mom and sister have been saying all along that the one thing they really want to help with is chosing the dress. They’re coming to Hawaii the second week in January for a visit and are excited to go dress shopping with me (but it’s not the only reason they’re coming, clearly).
Today: I figured I should scout out stores before my mom and sister come, as well as get some idea of what kinds of dresses I like, since I’ve felt pretty lost about what I even like. A few weeks ago I went to Davids Bridal, and found one dress I liked ok, but was still looking forward to shopping with them since I wasn’t in love with anything yet. Today I had some free time and decided to check out a few smaller boutiques. I tried on a bunch of dresses and completely fell in love with one. As soon as I put it on I knew it was exactly what I’ve been looking for.
The dilemma: I’m not very excited about trying on lots of other dresses now. I feel like I already know what I want and will feel dumb making a big deal of trying on other dresses that I won’t like as much. I haven’t told my mom and sister that I found a dress I love so much (but they knew I was scouting out some stores)
What would you do??
[sorry that was so long]

That is an amazing dress, and if it is your dress than it is your dress. You can still go shopping and try some and just wait to put the deposit down on the dress until she gets there. You can try on more if you want and throw it into the mix or simply tell her the truth, that you stumbled upon it and you knew it was the one, but you want her to see it first. Let the store “jack” you up in it and I am sure that she will love it too.

Love the dress and it looks fantastic on you! I’d tell your family about the dress, but say you want to show them and agree to try on a few more for fun.

That is a GORGEOUS dress!!!! I’d tell your mom and sister you’ve fallen in love with a dress and are sure it’s the one, but still take them to the salon to see you try it on so they can have that moment with you.

i would still go with them to try on more dresses, because you never know, you might find something you love even more 🙂

Congrats! That dress is beautiful. I went dress shopping with my BFF and I found my dress but my sisters and Mum weren’t with me. I didn’t know what do to, but I knew this was my dress… So I fessed up to my mum and got her to come see it before I bought it, even though I knew I wanted it…. I wouldn’t have it any other way, it was low key and low stress…
Just don’t put down a deposit and keep looking – it’s dangerous!

Lovely dress, still try on more, if nothing speaks to you then this is the one!

Thanks guys! After thinking about it overnight, I guess I don’t feel too bad about doing more shopping (dress shopping is pretty fun and I haven’t gotten to go with anyone yet, it’s all been on my own). But I just feel bad telling them that I found a dress without them. So I might or might not tell them– maybe I’ll just mention that I found a dress I liked a lot– but will still let them take me out shopping.

i haven’t been on wedding bee since my wedding and i just happened to log on today and found a dress twin! i wore this alyne gown at my wedding in october and LOVED it. it was very very comfortable and i felt gorgeous in it despite me not liking my hair on the day. but i noticed that your wedding isn’t until september … i suggest that you look around some more … there are still so many styles coming out and u have plenty of time! if u like alyne, u should look at their website and their newer styles. theyre all so gorgeous … but i guess this is coming from a girl who still kept looking at other dresses even after i bought my own. i dont regret my decision on my dress though. megan by alyne is a great choice either way!

Thats a pretty dress. I still think you should go shopping and show it to them and try on more. I’ve had a few dresses I thought was it then on different shops I liked others more. It will be special of you find it in their prescece. If this turns out to be it in fact, at least they will be there too.

That’s a gorgeous dress and looks fab on you. Did you get the designer and number? You could try to find a boutique in DC that carries it and try it on there with them.

@oct15: yeah one of my favorite things, from the moment on put it on, was how light and airy it felt! I’d love to see pictures of yours, I haven’t seen anyone else with this dress yet.

i LOVE that dress on you! looks amazing!!!! I would tell them about the dress but agree to try on a few more just so they can be part of the experience!

I think you should share the experience with them, even if this one is on your mind. You could even make it a game–make sure this is one of the dresses you try on with your mom and sister, and let them know beforehand that your favorite will be one of the dresses they see that day–but wait and see if they also think this is “the one”!
