Just have to vent: I know through some weird behavior from my boyfriend (that may have lead to a little snooping) that an engagement ring is in the house, and I was sure that the proposal would be this upcoming weekend. We’re supposed to go camping at one of the national dark sky preserves (see all of the stars / the Milky Way / amazing), this is last time we’ll have a good work and moon and sunfreezing temperature free weekend for it for over a year, and I’ve been dying to go.
But I’m getting the feeling that the 6 hour drive won’t quite be worth it if it isn’t just not clear at night, but raining the whole time, as the forcast is now showing. Miserable for camping, impossible for star gazing. So now I’m crossing fingers that the forcast magically clears up in the next few days because inspite of telling myself four times a day to forget about it and not get my hopes up for anything it didn’t work. I totally got my hopes up for a romantic under the freakin’ Milky Way proposal. Which now looks like it’s out of the cards

What’s the fun in knowing when your going to get proposed to. I’m sorry it might rain though.

If it doesn’t clear up, suggest a romantic alternative, such as an evening at a bed and breakfast? A nice walk in the rain? I’m sorry your weekend plans could be rained out, though…. I lived in a dark sky city and we would always go camping in the most perfect places for field work in my department. It’s like nothing you’ll ever experience. My favorite trip was at a ranch on the Kaibab Plateau. There was a valley you could enter near the ranch surrounded by towering rocks, and not too far in was an overhang you can climb onto, lie down on, and watch the stars. I would have slept out there if there wasn’t a mountain lion watching us the whole time 😉

dessilove: That’s what I keep telling myself, but then I figure anyone who knows there’s a ring will suspect it’ll be any event / vacation / trip that’s coming up, so my bed was made the second I found out the ring was there.

Sunflower3: it will still be a romantic amazing under the milky way proposal. because he’ll still be proposing (which is romantic and amazing) and technically you’ll still be under the MW even if you’re wet.
my advice: stop thinking about it. i know, easier said than done. but do your best to just relax. at this point, you’ve already figured out (possibly) the surprise that your BF had planned for you. in addition, don’t you think he’s probably stressed a little about it being ruined if it rains? just chill, enjoy the fact that you’re about to be engaged, and enjoy it however and whenever it happens. oh, and stop snooping.
i always thought i’d want to be perfectly dressed and have my nails done, etc. for when i got my proposal. it wouldn’t be perfect without those elements! but it totally was. i was in my swimsuit, hot and slightly sunburned when mr. h did it 2 weeks ago in mexico. and it was the best day of my life. so just try to focus on having a nice weekend…especially since, if his plan either isn’t to do it on that weekend or he changed his plan due to possible rain, you’re setting yourself up for a bigger disappointment by thinking into it soooo much.
just have fun! 🙂
