Thinking About Going Off BC?

@FutureM:  I went off of BC recently because it was really affecting my emotions and mood (I was on and off it for 4 or 5 years probably).  I hadn’t had a cycle since I went off of it this past July or August until this week actually.  To be honest, it was nice not having it for that long but nerve racking.  I forgot what it was even like.  When I started getting warning signs it was coming I misinterpretted and thought maybe I was pregnant LOL.  I also got really bad skin, which is weird because I never had bad skin before when I wasn’t on it.  Nor did I have bad skin the other times I went off for a few months. I think perhaps the going on and off messed with my hormones too much.  My skin is fairly regulated now, but definitely more prone to break outs.

But, that all being said, I will NEVER go back on BC.  It made me crazy.  My reactions and moods were heightened ten-fold.  I feel so much better not having artificial hormones affecting me.  I fully encourage my friends to go off all the time, I don’t like the idea of it because of just how much it affected me.

Do you have another reliable form of BC? I know BC can be annoying but to me it’s better than the alternatives!

@FutureM:  I finished my last pack of YAZ in August, I was on YAZ for about 6 months, prior to that I was on Ortho-tri-cyclen-lo for the better part of 4 years. Honestly I just couldn’t take the pill anymore, it completely ruined who I was. For the last 2 years I was on the pill I was a basket case, I had next to zero control over my emotions.

Since I stopped taking the pill I’ve been getting more and more back to my old pre-pill-self.. I’m so happy, FI is so happy that I’m not crying daily, everyone has noticed a change in me.

I will never go back on the pill again. I’ll never put my daughter (if I have one lol) on the pill.

Going off of it has been the best decision FI and I have ever made.

@FutureM:  I have the same plan as you…although I have to wait until next April. I’ve been on BC for 6 years, and have had 3 different pills an now the Nuvaring. Nothing has been perfect, although the ring has been the best. I’m just totally over it. And I’m pretty sure it’s giving me a decreased sex drive. We’ll just stick with condoms until we’re TTC, since we double up with condoms now anyway (I’m paranoid lol).

I plan on going off 6mo-1yr after our july wedding. I would like to be off of it for a good amount of time before we TTC. I have been on birth control for about 3 years now and would like some time off before the next step in our life.

Make sure you have a backup method of birth control.  I used TCOYF’s NFP successfully for a year before my body decided to “help” me out and ovulate 10+ days early which caused us to have an accidental pregnancy.

I just went off BC a week or so before Christmas. I had been on the pill for about 6 years and Lo Loestrin for the past two. I did not get one period while on that which was awesome, but it really started messing with me emotionally. I felt like crap all the time and decided I needed to stop, even though we aren’t planning on TTC quite yet. I figure another plus of going off is that my body will definitely be ready for TTC once we do decide to do that. Let me tell you, the past month and a half has been MISERABLE since stopping the pill! I had every pregnancy symptom in the book, I was nauseous all the time, and was soooo insanely irritable. I didn’t get a withdraw bleed right after stopping since I never had one on the pill, but did get a period a few days ago. The cramps were definitely worse than I ever remember them being, but I’m hoping it just had to do with coming off BC. Now that it’s over, my body is starting to feel a TON better! I feel more “me” and happy. After this experience, I will never go back on BC again.

@FutureM: I went off mine a couple months ago. I had been on it for 7 years, which was crazy for me to realize. I have PCOS, and I heard being on BC isn’t good for that (although I haven’t looked into that). While on the pill, I would get incredibly, inexplicably sad the week before my period and I (realize now) had a decreased libido. The week after I stopped taking it, I had a really awful headache for a few days. That was tough, but I’m feeling a lot better being off of it. Because of an issue FI has, I know that our chances of getting pregnant right now are just about 0%, so I feel good that I’m not unnecessarily taking in hormones.
