Also known as, I can’t make up my damn mind (part 12).
The ring is pretty substantial in terms of the halo and so with my very small fingers, I’m worried about it looking too wide, but at the same time, Diamond Shrinkage Syndrome (well, in this case, Moissanite Shrinkage Syndrome) is a concern as well.
Due to the ring being custom and a bezel halo, I cannot upgrade the centerstone in the future (nor would I want to).
My current ring is an oval aquamarine that’s approx 1.5 carats in diamond weight (6x8mm) so I’ve gotten used to the size. He is also leaning towards the larger size, and with my beloved moissanite, the price isn’t really an issue.
So the question is- 1.1 carat cushion or 1.4 carat cushion center for a 4.25 ring size? All advice welcomed.

@musician32992: I don’t think you’ll notice much difference between 1.1 and 1.4. Also, you said your ring now is a 1.5, and cushions face up smaller, so wouldn’t you want to get something bigger than 1.4? Not only is it a smaller weight than the original, since cushions face up smaller, a 1.4 is going to look smaller than the stone you have now.

@mrspinesol: It’s technically a 1 carat but aquamarines have different carat sizes than diamonds. I was told a 6X8 oval would be about a 1.5 carat oval diamond, but I’m not sure how correct that is.
The largest I think I’d go is 1.4 since the halo is so large.

I was thinking about that, too!
Cushions show pretty small. So if you like the generous sizing of your current 1.5, I’d definitely go with at least a 1.5 cushion!
Unless you prefer a whiter stone, then you might want to go with the smaller 1.1!

I would go for the larger stone!!! Beautiful!

Try going do diamdb.com – obviously your ring will be a bit different since it has a halo and the website compares solitaires, but it might help? I would go with the 1.4ct tho (I had a 1.4ct moissy cushion in the past) and it seemed like the perfect size to me.

I love your aquamarine ring. Beautiful. Where is it from if you don’t mind me asking? You’re new one is gorgeous, too.

@blueeyes39: It was from Amazon, but the company doesn’t sell it anymore on there. Their website is myloveweddingring.com.

Thanks, ladies! I do think I want to go with the 1.4 now, the next size up is a 1.8 and I definitely think that would make a very wide ring! Too wide for my fingers, most likely.

Go bigger!..trust me diamond shrinkage syndrome is not fun..I wish my center diamond was larger..it has shrunk. Its a .83 carat princess cut diamond in a halo and my ring size is 3.5 and upgrading to a larger diamond would mean making my halo larger which would all be expensive…so definitely go for the 1.4 so you won’t regret it later!
