So what’s the purpose of the seperate ceremony?  If it’s saving money it doesn’t really sound like you’ll save much.

If you both feel like doing a private ceremony then a reception later, then do it that way! I’m sure your friends and family would understand given the circumstances. If not, then they can pay for the ceremony to be held on the same day and at the same place as the reception 😉

As far as clothing, I’d wear dress and tux to both! Why not, you’re spending enough money as it is. Will you have a photographer at both?

@JacobsMama:  I don’t understand how this saves you money. Logistically, the ceremony is short and it’s the reception that involves all the setup. So how is this saving you money? (I’m not trying to be difficult, just trying to get a clearer picture).
