Thinking of rocking red lips at my wedding! Thoughts? Anyone else doing same?

    Hi bees!

I tried on an INCREDIBLE lip stain that I couldn't get off until late the next day, which means that if I put it on it's not going to smudge or go anywhere. It's like a marker you draw on your lips and the colour soaks in (and then I put my regular clear lip balm on top). (Here's the link to the product page in case you're interested. I tried on "Flameco".)

Anyhow! I'll share a pic of me with the red lips and link to the dress - let me know what you think! I think it could be fun! (Also let me know if you think it's too much?) I'm thinking my hair will be down in a loose vintage-style wave.

Anyone else also thinking of wearing red lips on their wedding day?

You are going to be so freaking cute!

I am doing it too. Here's a pic of my trial. It was taken in my bathroom where there's a bulb out, so the lighting kind of sucked and this is the "reddest lip pic" I could find (albeit at a bad angle). It looks much more red in other pics on other days, but at least you get the idea:

Do it!!!! I never ever wear lipstick but wanted to pop on the big day with my holiday theme. I wore Maybelline 24hr Colorstay in All Day Cherry and it was awesome.

@AlmostMrs.APP:  SO glad you posted on this thread, because I was going to tell the OP to find your recap and see your pics.  Your lipcolor (and ALL of your make up) was amazing!!

@lorelai:  I think you would look fabulous with a red lipcolor; however (and maybe it's just the lighting or the quality of the cell phone pic), the color you're wearing in the pic seems to be a bit of an orange-red (i.e. warm red), and I would recommend that you consider (or at least explore) a red that is more of a true red or even a blue-red (i.e. cool red.)

    @Miss LusterDust:  Thank you!

    Feedback is totally appreciated :D

@AlmostMrs.APP:  You looked like a VISION! You definitely made a great decision to wear that colour! How was the Maybelline Colourstay? Did it rub off at all? Did you have to reapply frequently?

Also, the rest of you looked amazing. Seriously jealous.

@Brielle:  I appreciate your honest feedback.

I'll post a close-up, since I think the first picture might be giving the colour a more orange tone. Thoughts after the close-up?

@jadefrog154:  Thank you for your super nice words! It's funny - that's not the first time I've been told that (about Claire Forlani)!

@mcklough:  Yay! I'm totally going to look now to see if you've posted any dress pics! Did you read what I said about this lip stain? It's incredible! I wouldn't carry this in the dress pockets, though, just in case the cap comes off. (Lip balm is a different story.)

@lorelai:  Thank you!!!! I was really happy with it. I waited till the last minute to put it on (after my makeup was done and i had my dress on). I did reapply twice, once before the ceremony and then when we got to the reception but we had a really long day. I had makeup done at 930 in the AM and ceremony wasn't till 5pm, reception at 730 but we did the majority of our pics before church. It never faded completely off but it did get a little peely by the time I put on a new coat at the reception. I would certainly recommend it though.

@lorelai:  That color is GORGEOUS on you, and the whole look (pale skin/dark hair/bold red lips) would look perfect with your adorable dress.  I say go for it!  I LOVE it!

As for me, I wear red lipstick a lot, so I am thinking about it...  I just don't want to be touching up my lipstick all night.  I haven't yet decided if I want to do bold/smokey eyes or bright red lips.  You're making me want the red lips, though!

ETA: If you are still considering various reds (like I said, I love the color you have on, but I'm not sure if you're still shopping), I have to recommend MAC's Ruby Woo.  It is the perfect true red, and it stays put very well.  It's not a stain, so you'd definitely have to touch up throughout the day/night, but it has a matte finish (not glossy) and does not bleed.  I love it so much.

@Ms Bookworm:  Ooh I'm so glad I'm helping to sway your decision! Obviously go with what you want more, but vintage glam is a classy classic.

-- OH MY GOSH. I just looked at your engagement photos to see what you look like and gasped when I saw your red lips pictures! The look is INCREDIBLE on you! You've also made me re-consider my idea to not do mustard bridesmaid dresses (I've been thinking of doing some sort of green). I'm bookmarking that page!

What brand & colour was that lipstick? Does it stay on through kisses and such?

ETA - Just saw your post update with answers to most of my questions. Thanks for the recommendation! Does it transfer to his lips when you kiss? (Wouldn't want that in photographs!)

@lorelai:  Aww, thank you!  Laughing  That's so sweet of you.  Mustard is a great color!  (But green is, too.  Wink)

My lipstick is Ruby Woo by MAC!  It's my go-to red lipstick, even though I have like 20 different ones, haha...  I love how matte it is, and it's just the perfect cool blue-red shade.  Everyone looks great in it!  You should definitely try it (even though, like I said, you look amazing in the Josie Maran lipstain you already showed us).  Russian Red is another great MAC shade, but Ruby Woo is my forever favorite.

And yes, it stays on for kisses, especially if you line underneath it.  (I don't line for everyday wear, but would for my wedding day, just for extra staying power.)  I wore that lipstick for probably 90 minutes of our engagement pic session, and that was through kissing AND drinking coffee - and it did not budge one bit.  No marks on FI, either!  (I do kiss gently when wearing it just to make sure I don't get red all over him, but again, the formula is so matte that it definitely doesn't transfer the way a gloss or shiny lipstick would.)

@Ms Bookworm:  Fantastic. What liner did you use for the shoot (if any) - or if not, is there one you'd recommend to use with Ruby Woo? I'm so interested in going to try that shade on.

@lorelai:  I didn't use one for the shoot!  I just moisturized my lips with shea butter in the morning (since the lipstick is so matte and goes on very dry, it can dry the lips out with a lot of wear, but as long as I moisturize properly, it isn't a problem) - then made sure my lips were totally dry (without a fresh coat of chapstick or anything) before applying the lipstick, so it wouldn't budge or smudge.  Smile

I actually just have one red liner, and it's a basic Revlon one...  I hardly ever line my lips, so I haven't invested in great liners - but I bet MAC has one that complements Ruby Woo!  And/or I'm sure Sephora has tons of options, too.

Definitely report back on what you think of it!  You will look gorgeous in it.

@lorelai:  I wanted to 2nd bookworm's recommendation for Ruby Woo. I own it too and I LOVE it. It's the perfect retro matte red. There's also a color in the L'Oreal Color Riche line (gold tubes) called True Red that is amazing. It's really comparable to MAC's Russian Red, only about 1/3 of the price.

As for red liner, NYX (you can get it at Ulta) has a really good red liner that is a true red. I think the liners are only a couple bucks too, so that's a plus.
