I just found out that my SIL will not be going on a family vacation next month that my in laws do every 2 years. (She’s been dealing with 24/7 headaches due to a spinal cord leak which doctors have not been able to patch, and will hvae to deal with it for a few more months until surgery). DH and I want to send her something but not really sure what. My usual go to is wine, but she can’t drink right now with the headaches and meds she’s on to supress the pain. Flower are pretty useless imo, but we could do that in addition to something else. She will be alone at home with the dogs (she convinced her husband and step daughter to still go on the trip). Food, but what kind? Any other ideas?

Does she like movies? Books? Crafts? What are her hobbies and what is she able to do now?

pinkshoes: Arrange to have some takeout meals delivered or give her gift cards to restaurants so she can choose what she feels like eating on any given day.

Is she able to go for a massage and/or acupuncture? If so, maybe a gift certificate to use while the rest of her family is away.
If she’s kind of stuck at home, I think a nice little gift basket full of things to do at home would be amazing. Movies, magazines, tea, chocolate, maybe a heat pack, anything to relieve the pain if only for a short time. Also the idea of having a meal or two delivered would be great if she’s got limited mobility. The worst is feeling like you can’t eat well just because you can’t stand up long enough to cook.)

Ryansgirl: +1 I like the idea of doing a gift basket of things she can do/likes doing at home…movies, popcorn, gift cards to restaurants (that she can get delivery from), lotions she likes, bath products, etc.
