This is the dress my grandmother and mother wore when they got married. What do you think, does it work on me? It is ballerina length. I'm seriously considering it for my wedding. That is my bouquet, shoes and pearls I plan on wearing. It needs to be steamed and the boning is digging into me, but I would get that fixed.

I think it is beautiful.  Reminds me of a very elegant tea party! :-) Rock it with some fabulous heels!

That looks gorgeous! I love the bouquet, but think that you could find a pair of shoes that is vintagey that may match the feel of the dress a little better? So cool!

I like it! If it were me, I would add a slip to make it a little poofy, just to make it your own a little bit. Very nice!

@7SEVENJ9: well I want flats because my FI is only 2 inches taller than me and I never wear heels. Those are shoes I already had and thought would work well.

It's beautiful, I used the lace from the dress my grandmother and mother wore on their wedding days, there was no way I would fit into the actual dress.  Lucky you to get to carry on such a lovely dress tradition.

What an awesome tradition! Since you're planning to do flats, I'd try to do like 7SevenJ9 and find some vintage or vintage style shoes. Maybe for photos/the day of you can wear a sweet vintage cardigan so that some of your photos are more 'you' while others focus on the dress (bonus if you can find photos of your mom/gma in it that are a similar pose and try to recreate it). I think you look great in that dress, and the sentiment is just going to make your day even more memorable.

@NDBee: there is actually a full sleeved lace bolero that goes with it that they both wore, but I can't because the lace it going to fall apart.

I love it! I wore my mom's dress and I'm so glad I did. Unfortunately, for me, my mom still wishes I didn't wear it.

Menbur has some nice "vintagey" looking wedding flats, but not sure any of them are "right" for this dress - but will post them anyway, can be found at www.endless.com:

    Third Generation Dress? : wedding 31ujvPPip L. SL500 SS160 Menbur Luisa Wedding Flat Third Generation Dress? : wedding 41Fm%2BGVCm2L. SL500 SS160 Menbur 038910A04 Wedding Flat Third Generation Dress? : wedding 316qIiGtkCL. SL500 SS160 Menbur 04254 Ballet Flat

Then there is this one by Seychelles, also on www.endless.com that would be beautiful with that style of dress:

These are cute, by "Modern Vintage" and also can be found on www.endless.com:

@totheislnds: careful on the cracks about the 70's some of us had our first wedding then-- on the beach, barefoot, in quianna-- quick youngsters- go look up that fabric- I think the EPA banned it- as carcinogenic- or just in bad taste;)

it's very sweet. if you won't wear heels though, would you consider shortening the hem? the length just overpowers and makes you look very, very short.

I agree with kitzy. If you aren't going to wear heels then I would definitely shorten it a bit. It's a great dress though and a wonderful tradition!

honestly i like the shoes and the length of it on you (ankle length?) i think if you added a crinoline it would bring it up just enough that it would be the perfect length and add some playfulness - maybe try one on under it and see how you like it!

I LOVE the dress! And how cool is it that you can wear the same dress that your mother and grandmother wore?! I agree with a couple of other posters, though about wearing a crinoline underneath it and/or shortening it just a tad. I also think that the shoes aren't my favorite...they're a bit dark. I hear ya on wanting to wear flats, but I think you can find some dyeable satin flats that would work better.

I love it!  Tea length dresses are really in style right now too.  I'd add a crinoline under it to give it more poof.  I think the skirt would look more like this if you added the crinoline.

That dress is great!! Love it. (I wore tea length too.) I agree about adding a little poof to it. And I also think you need at least a kitten heel. I think tea length is a hard length to pull off. Adding a heel helps balance the silhouette. In my humble opinion, it doesn't work as well with a flat.

@kitzy well I am 5'2" I may shorten it if I go with it, but we are pretty sure no tailor will go withing 10 feet of it because the lace is pretty fragile.

@7SEVENJ9: ooh I do like the Seychelles, but they don't have them in my size (6.5-7) Frown

@coffeekitty: it does have a lace jacket that has long sleeves so it was a bit more covered for both of them.

@elliestan: Thanks for the suggestion and for being one of the few who likes my shoes =)

I am so jealous that you are able to wear an heirloom! That is amazing. I love the shoes and the color of the dress, but I really want to see it with a crinoline under it. I think it would look AMAZING!

    You are so lucky.
