Spend some time helping others–volunteer at a soup kitchen or homeles shelter–work at an animal shelter. Something to keep your mind focused on others.

This is why planned proposals are a dumb idea

Aquaria: I really never understood planned proposals. There are so many things I learned were a thing after I joined the bee.

Whatever happened to surprise proposals? I understand going shopping for the ring together so you make sure you get something you like, but IMHO, the proposal is already ruined because you already know its coming! But to plan the proposal day down to a T is just absurd to me!

TwinkleBoss: I am exactly the same boat as you 🙁 I know we are going on a trip in Oct to New York where he will propose but he wont tell me when so the time is just crawling by…… I have so far had 2 meltdowns about it

TwinkleBoss: Yes very rude

In my case I would wayyyy rather have the trip of a life time that I know about but it is still kinda a surprise than a crappy proposal that is a total surprise.

My first proposal was a traditional proposal I had no idea and it took me by surprise and guess what?? IT SUCKED haha

TwinkleBoss: its not any different. and they do get flack for it. maybe not all the time but they do.

I just don’t see how you are going to be surprised except for HOW he proposes.

This is my opinion but if I knew a proposal was coming, the surprise factor is gone. The fact that you know the ring has shipped, and you are going on a really nice trip and you FI can’t keep surprises (which is not your fault), the surprise is not all there. When DH proposed, I had no idea he was even thinking of proposing (we knew we wanted to get married, but we never talked about when it would happen). I had no inkling of him shopping for a ring. Nothing, he completely blindsided me.

COngrats in advance.

TwinkleBoss: That’s so exciting!!! Honestly, as far as how a guy proposes, I think that depends on your relationship. If you have open communication about your future and your SO is just want too excited to marry you, it’s likely that you know something about it. For my SO to take me by surprise, he should have proposed before I was even ready to get married… because once I decided I was ready, there was nothing stopping us from talking about it. I actually think it’s very healthy to be so open about what we want with our future. There’s nothing we feel we can’t talk about. I don’t need a surprise. Hell, I don’t even need a huge gesture. I just want his love.

My proposal should actually be coming in the next month too… I’m not sure when or how, but I suspect around the time of his friends wedding (I’m fairly certain my SO talked to him about it during the bachelor party this weekend). Nonetheless, I’ve never been more at ease while waiting knowing the timeline of the engagement. It’s actually not hard for me to put it out of my mind now!

TwinkleBoss: I just wanted to say have a wonderful time on your trip and ignore the people being negative nancys. So nice of your bf to plan such a grand proposal 🙂 Congrats!

Last year my hubby, then boyfriend, totally did a gocha, hinting over and over that we shouldn’t go anywhere columbus day weekend, that we would have plans, etc, etc.

The first weekend of October we went to his parents as his gran was visiting. We went off early in the morning for him to show me one of his favorite childhood romping grounds….and to my utter surprize he proposed right there!!!!

Don’t be anxious it will come. Let him have his fun, guys only get this once.
