I think that Lowe's might have some decorations for sale for Black Friday but I don't know if you want to handle the crowds.
We are just getting into our place in December so I don't think I will do much for the holidays, more worried about moving in!
Our first married Christmas was last year, but year will be our first in our new house! We were outside yesterday measuring for Christmas lights! So fun!
That was us last year! It was our first holiday season in our house!! Halloween & Christmas are so fun & I love decorating the outside!
@MissAsB: I probably won't go out on Black Friday. Maybe I will shop online. I am looking for those snowflake lights. Congrats on the house!
@bluebonnet: It is so exciting. I am afraid of hubby getting on the ladder. I will probably sit outside and watch him incase he falls.
@AnnieAAA: I couldn't go all out for Halloween this year. :( It kinda creeped up on me, but we did give candy to the kids.
I forgot to mention that we will be using our crystal monogram cake topper as our tree topper. I can't wait to see how it turns out.
How fun! be sure to take pictures. If you are going to be in that house next year the very best time to buy decorations is December 26th! seriously, I get all of my lights, etc then. I also get all of my wrapping paper, bows, bags etc.
Like you, I try to buy stuff for steals after Christmas. I'm also a huge online shopper, there's so many great deals online. I hope you'll take lots of photos and share with us all! :)
It's our first Christmas together in our own home, so I am really excited too! :) I bought some lights on clearance last year and scored a couple beautiful (new) decorations and a gorgeous wrought iron tree stand at our local thrift store for a fraction of the price. I am planning on a gold and teal blue colour theme so I can use up some of our teal ribbon leftover from our wedding.
This is our first married Christmas, too! We're in a two-bedroom apartment, so a little small, but we still have a decent amount of space to decorate. I think that will be my project for after the Thanksgiving weekend. I just have to figure out how to get my husband to go decor shopping with me!
Anyone have tips for getting started with a decor collection? Any must-haves?
@Gemstone: I am a big theme person. My sister does snowmen and silver accents and I do nutcrackers and green accents.
@panterapeach: Great idea! I'll try to think of one. :) That may prevent me from buying up every Christmas decoration that I see!
@panterapeach: I usually buy everything after, but last year I got married on New Years Day and Christmas feel by the wayside. I have some things that I've never used from the year before.
@Lillindy: Yes, I will take lots of pictures. I just need to pick up some garland.
@MrsFarmer: Can't wait to see pictures.
@Gemstone: When I lived in my apartment, I wrapped garland around the railing of the balacony. I also used some ribbons. I know that some people use lights, but I didn't. This will be our first time using lights.
@panterapeach: I agree. A theme will make everything easier. Also, you don't have to get everything at the same place. I've found things at Sam's Club, K-Mart, Target, Walmart, Big Lots, Home Depot, etc.
I found some cheap indoor and outdoor decor online at this webside called lakeside.com I should receive them next week. I will post what I think about them when I get them.
I made many of my own decorations including gingerbread men. It's a good way to save money.
It's our first Christmas in our "forever until we buy a house" rented home :P so we are pretty excited too! All the previous Christmases we've been together have been us living separately an hour away from each other, both in super tiny shitty apartments that we didn't bother to decorate. Now we live in a pretty big duplex, with a yard and bushes outside that we can decorate, windows we can put candles in, and room for a full-size tree! I'm sooo excited. We're decorating tomorrow!!
In previous years I have discovered that dollar stores usually have some pretty decent decorations for much less money than similar items at "big box" stores.

We are super excited! My husband can't wait to put up the lights. He has been walking around measuring and analyzing the way he wants to hang the lights. lol It is too cute! His family celebrated Christmas, but they weren't into decorating. He also didn't grow up believing in Santa; so he is excited to have the traditional Christmas.
I have most of my decorations for indors. We are having a blue (different shades) and silver theme. We also have a ton of snowflakes things. I've been picking up things on sale here and there and picked up most of my stuff after last Christmas.
Feel free to share your ideas and sale info!
