I wonder if the are easy to make? It's not like you could use glue? Any ideas?

I googled. There are recipes for gelatin, marshmallows (really? for birds?!) and suet (smelly? dunno.)

    They're super cute!

I LOVE those.  My husband loves birds, so we always have feeders out.  I'd love to get this favor!

I found a tutorial online and it said you get a heart shaped cookie cutter, put it on a flat surface.. fill it about 1/2 way with seeds and then put a layer of peanut butter, press it down into the seeds, put another layer of seeds on top of the PB and press those seeds into the peanut butter. I don't see how that would come out as clean as this though!

So then I looked up how to make a bird feeder bell because they are a strange shape and figured I'd just apply that process to making these favors... I found another tut about using egg whites and the oven to somehow keep it together... I'm not sure. I wanted to contact the etsy seller to see how she made them but i thought it'd be rude, so I didn't!

Those are great! Hmm... I agree with you LLauRRa: using peanut butter would probably be a lot messier than how the seller made hers. I think the egg white/baking technique would be more effective!

Cute idea though! If anyone comes up with the perfect recipe, let us know please!!

I saw these at a craft show once.  She had used cardboard cut outs, covered with peanut butter and then pressed the seeds into it.  She was selling them well tied with little gingham ribbons at the top.  They were done on both sides so I guess you do one side and flip over slather with peanut butter and do that side.  She had them bagged in cello bags.

Hi ladies, just wanted to share my recipe with you...Good luck!

Here is what I ended up using:

Wild birdseed that I purchased at Walmart

Knox gelatin you can get a large box of this, I think it contains 24 packs of gelatin

    water

    lollipop sticks

I purchased the silicone heart molds from targets baking section and another silicone muffin pan in the shape of hearts, so I had a total of 18 hearts

Place 1/2 cup of cold water in large bowl, sprinkle 2 packs of gelatin over the top. Boil 1 1/2 cups of water and pour over the mixture, stir well. Add 4-5 cups of seed, mix well, you want there to be some liquid in the bottom of bowl.

Spray heart molds with cooking spray and spoon mixture in. Make sure you use a spoon that allows you to get some liquid in each mold,. Tap down the birdseed evenly, I cut up lollipop sticks to about 2 inches in length and placed those in the molds for the holes. Place in fridge overnight.

Once they are hard in fridge you can remove the molds, this might take some practice, remove the sticks, make sure your holegoes all the way through, place back in fridge for another few hrs. Remove from fridge again and let set so that they can dry out. I left them out for a couple of days before I strung the twine through the holes.

It sounds complicated, but it really isn't, just getting them out of the molds was the hardest for me. Lets just say the birds and squirels in my yard love me now!

If you are using them for wedding favors, I was afraid that they would crumble, so I wrapped mine in a bit of tulle (ughhh I know) and tied with a bit of ribbon with the following tag:

Thank you for sharing in our day

    The Lovebirds

    (all natural birdseed and ingredients)
