A year ago FI bought me a kitten who i joke is my soul mate, seriously i love that small animal beyond this world! Six months later we bought him another kitten because FI and I felt bad when we are at work for the whole day. Now my cat, Locky is the sweetest pet, he doesnt live off of human affection either, he is happy to leave us alone, but for example when we took Halo (the younger kitten) to get desexed she had to spend the day at the vet and Locky pined over her. He was so sad the whole day until she came back 🙁
We have a doogy door in our home so they can come and go as they please, they have always returned with no problem. On Monday morning at about 3am i felt Locky jump of the foot of our bed and then i heard the doggy door. almost instantly i heard howling and screeching, FI and I went out and could see Locky and a stray cat (that was huge!) FIs first response was to bang on the door in hopes to scare the stray and i had to walk around to our other door as we locked the door with a key so i couldnt get out. FI banging on the door scared both cats and they shot of.
All morning until i had to go for work I searched for Locky but couldnt find him. When we got from work i was expecting him home but nope. We have searched, drove around, everything his gone. Its now Thursday lunch time 🙁
Any way Halo, the younger kitten, just couldnt care. She isnt at all phased that Locky has vanished. I am distraught and FI doesnt know what to say. So I know im a horrible person but I just cant help feeling resentment to Halo for not caring at all. Honestly I dont even want her near me. They were best friends 🙁
Locky is the big cat on the left. Halo small girl on the right

I hope Locky comes home soon! That’s so sad. If he is used to being out of doors maybe he’s just off on an adventure…=(

@peachacid: Thats what FI keeps trying to tell me, but he has never been gone this long, its been freezing and raining/hailing lately and i found his fur and blood on our back deck the day of the incident 🙁

Aww, I’m sorry your cat is missing 🙁
maybe in cat language he told her he was just going out a bit so she’s not worried? Haha, I don’t know what to say… Cats are weird.

OK. I understand you are distraught since your cat is missing. But feeling resentment towards your other cat is not fair.
I do believe animals feel love towards us and other animals, but it is not the same as humans. They do not communicate in the same way that we do. You are projecting your human thoughts/feelings onto an innocent little animal. It’s not fair. Our pets need us to take care of them and love them, not resent them for not showing enough sympathy.
I hope your cat comes home. Put some tuna out, maybe it will lure her back if she’s hungry.

He’s probably spooked about that intruder cat honing in on his space. He’s probably being very cautious. I’m sure he’ll find his way home. When he does, clog that doggie door! No good can come from it now.

@kimm99: As i said i know its horrible. Im not hitting her, or not feeding her or anything like that. She still sleeps on my belly, and she still sits on my lap everynight purring and getting petted. I just said thats how i feel!

@StuporDuck: thanks. I wish i could block it… but we have a dog (who I might add if also upset by Locky being missing!)
They were friends too!

I hope your kitty comes home. The second kitty is still a kitten so they are more resileant and dont care so much.

@Pokemon: oh, I never imagined that it was that bad! Like I said, I think you’re just feeling like this toward arebecause you are so upset. But you really should work on moving past the resentment feelings, it’s not good for either of you. I do wish you luck finding your cat.

Oh gosh I hope Locky comes home 🙁 I don’t think it’s wrong to feel upset that your other kitty doesn’t seem to care.. agree that she’s still young and may not realize he’s missing..

A cat from my childhood was lost/disoriented/not sure exactly what happened during a bad snowstorm. He didn’t come back for 2 weeks! But he did come back. You still have hope! Cats are tough little creatures.

I work at a vet hospital.
Best friend siblings who are split from their litter as happy as can be!
If you take one cat to the vet, is the other cat distraught? no.
Do they probably think the other cat will be back at some point probably. Your other cat did not “pass away” in front of the kitten.
All the kitten knows is the cat is gone.. just like his siblings are gone. He is confused. Probably assumed it will come back.. and if/when they dont.. they eventually just evolve and forget.
its also a kitten.. there wasnt a 5+ year bond between them.

Female cats are much less outwardly affectionate than males, and tend to be more independent. Hang tough even though I know it’s hard. He’ll be back.
