This makes me sad too.  A few bad apples (and I mean irresponsible owners/breeders, not the dogs themselves) spoil the bunch.

Oh I hate things like this! I know that some animals lean more towards aggression, but when treated correctly (most, there will always be freak accidents) animals will never hurt a person. I have a german shepard mix, she is the sweetest little thing in the world, but alot of apartment complexes have her on the “bully dog” list. I know so many sweet pit bulls who love their families. I hate that they would put an innocent dog to death because of its breed. Sorry, I get worked up. I sign petitions and stay up on animal rights issues.

This has been the law here for a few years now. A friend of mine had her pitbull taken away and put to sleep because it was illegal to own one (and this dog was the sweetest thing ever).

The main problem we have here with pittbulls are the irresponsible owners, which sadly, is not even slightly uncommon. We get people (usually the same stereotypical type of people – chavs) who buy them for the image. They want to look tough. They encourage their dogs to act badly when they’re out and about because they think it makes them look big and tough. And they encourage them to fight each other

In all honesty, it is NOT the dogs fault, it’s the owners, but anyone can go and buy a dog here so what else can be done when children keep getting brutally attacked (and it’s always in the news here) because of an irresponsible dog owner?

I wish there were tougher liscensing laws here or tests, or something that would stop people from just being able to buy a dog. But it simply doesn’t happen and they can’t make one rule for one and not another (however stupid I think that is).

A couple of years ago in my mom’s neighborhood, A neighbor’s very nice, friendly pit bull killed the little Chihuahua of another neighbor. I’m just not sure they can be trusted. This was such a nice pit bull (no aggression shown before) and then it just yanked off it’s leash and killed another dog. It was NOT the owners fault, it was the dog’s.

I’m not really up on the whole situation, but I know that my city, my condo, and my insurance ban pit bulls.

@PinkMagnolia:  Wow that’s pretty bad :/ I guess things like this must be another reason why. The only type of dog that I’ve personally known to turn suddenly (and not due to anything the owner did unlike the countless pittbull owners) was the breed German Shepherd.

I have known several people who have had the sweetest loveliest German Shepherd ever one day only for it to just suddenly snap one day and do crazy things. One attacked a man’s girlfriend just because she was in their house. Another attacked a random mother in a school playground because the child of the dog owner got a little close to her. And another, very similar to your story, I was walking with my friend and her German Shepherd just suddenly yanked her off her feet to chase a little dog who she locked her jaws around and started shaking around. Luckily the dog was ok and the other owner didn’t want to press charges but she had to be taken out after dark. And come to think of it my mother told me a German Shepherd attacked her little dog once but I think the owner was an idiot anyway and couldn’t be trusted with a goldfish.
