As far as I know, it's not a biological cause (in terms of there are times during the month you are fertile and there are times you are not). Taking the pill correctly (every day at the same time without missing any) does not guarantee that you will not become pregnant (it is 99.9% effective). However, many people miss pills or do not take them at approximately the same time every day. You can become pregnant by missing just one pill.
On another note, there are other societal reasons why teen moms may end up pregnant again. Factors such as not finishing school, poverty, unemployment and low self-esteem are linked to teen pregnancy.
@EvaBostonTerrier: Ahhh thank you :) I knew some of those reasons, but I just didn't know if it was combined with biological or not.
I love this stuff; I'm a psychology major so I like knowing statistics and reasons behind them! :)
I have had several of my friends tell me they had an easier time getting pregnant after just having given birth. So there might be a biological thing in there somewhere.
I've known two ladies to get pregnant very quickly after giving birth because they were breastfeeding and though, breastfeeding does act like a natural birth control, it doesn't always work.
I plan to breastfeed myself, so I won't be able to go right back on the pill. But from knowing two women to get pregnant so quickly while breastfeeding? I will DEFINITELY be looking for another form of birth control during this time, lol
From what I have had doctors tell me, a woman is very fertile for a few months after having just had a child...but I think we're talking in terms of months here, not years. I feel like a lot of people have their second child within 2 years to keep the age range close, but I know my fair share of people who have gotten pregnant again within 3-6 months of having their first child without even trying. This terrifies me for when DH and I start...um...doing it...again after our LO is born this month lol. I cant even FATHOM being pregnant again. No. No. No no no lol

Sorry, there are no users yet.
So, I just found out someone I know is pregnant again, having had her first child about 6 months ago because she missed a pill. I heard that stat about teen pregnancy on (where else?) Teen Mom that teen mothers usually have another child within something like 2-3 years.
Why is this?? Is it easier to have a child after you've already had one, like something with hormones, etc?
I tried Googling it and nothing helpful has come up except that it isn't ALWAYS easy to have a second child.. but overall, is it easier to concieve a second child after the first? Typically?
Thanks bees, in advance :)
