Hi everyone: Long-time reader and first-time poster here. I have been engaged for three months and today was my first wedding dress shopping trip. I had a favorite style picked out in advance: Allure 9022. I tried it on and it was even better in person than in the stock photo! Unfortunately the shop I went to didn’t allow pictures, but my mother managed to sneak a very blurry one. I adored it, and my mother loved it too. Until she saw dress #2. It’s a Justin Alexander that looks much more like a traditional white wedding dress. It quickly became her favorite. After she declared that the second dress was better than the first, a strange thing happened. I became convinced of it, too! But only for a little while. Now I can’t get the Allure dress out of my head. The Justin Alexander that my mother convinced me was the one? I have already forgotten what it looked like on me. My memory only says: Pretty but Generic bridal gown. That’s probably a sign, no? Next week I am going back to the shop with mother and aunt in tow. Both of them are huge fans of narrow, columnar white wedding dresses made entirely of lace. A champagne tulle ball gown will be a stretch for them.I hope that I can stay true to myself and convince them that this is the dress!

I love that first dress! Even in the blurry cell picture it gives you such a gorgeous, defined waist. It has just the right amount of sparkle and detail and is still traditional. Beautiful.

Even with that blurry photo, the first dress looking stunning on you. I love that blush shade, it’s not too pink and still ethereal enough to look appropriately bridal. The second dress is pretty but I find the neckline a little harsh, I prefer the open lace of the Allure. I think the JA would be slightly less flattering because of the more defined round neckline and also the beading on the cap sleeves could add bulk to the arms.

Thanks for your votes of confidence, everyone! I think that #1 is The Dress. The usual trumpet/fit-and-flare route was closed to me when I couldn’t even pull the sample dress over my backside, let alone zip it closed. 🙁 That was humiliating.
So, might as well go for a ball gown!

I prefer the first dress way more over the second. Do what your heart tells you to do! It’s your dress!

I bought a very similar style to #1 made by Danielle Caprese. They had the option to order in ivory. Perhaps the Allure has the same and then you can have the style and shape you like with the color your mom loves?
