Ok, so after several misses, I was wondering if I'd ever find my dress. A couple weeks ago my MOH and I went to the Alfred Angelo in Brea and felt very valued and well taken care of. Sometimes I worry that salons treat bigger girls like second-class citizens but I felt great!
I am not a big fan of my upper arms, so I brought in a picture of a bolero I liked (www.mikaella.com) and they're going to order extra fabric and make it for me.
I can't recommend it enough -- the salon, Ingrid and the manager were all super helpful and nice.

E, congratulations on finding your dress! I'm so happy that your dress shopping experience went so well for you... What a nice memory you will have for years to come! And your dress is beautiful! Very flattering on you!
OMG YOU LOOK WONDERFUL! Great inspiration for us Plus size girls!
Wait . . . you're a size 24? I never would have guessed! You look ah-may-zing! Congrats doll!
You look so much smaller than a 24! The back really shows your curves. Your guy is going to fall over when he sees you
You look beautiful! That dress is fantastic! I love the detail!
Congrats!! You look beautiful...I love the crystals on it and the style and fit are perfect.
CONGRATS on finding your dress and I'm so happy the experience was a WONDERFUL one...you look terrific, can't wait to see the bolero!
Congrats! I'm also a size 24 and got my dress from Alfred Angelo (#1153)
You look LOVELY!
This post has given me such hope! I have been very nervous about going to try on dresses. Being Plus sized, I am a little afraid that I am not going to find the dress of my dreams, and that they sales person is going to take one look and be disgusted. Thank You for this post it as certainly eased my nerves at least some, replaced itself with excitement about my appointment in two weeks!!!
That is such a GREAT dress! Love the sweet little beads on the bodice. This is so understated and elegant! Congrats on finding such a lovely dress, you look beautiful in it! :)
love ur dress!!! that was one of my dresses i couldnt decide about!! and i also am having fabric sewed on...although everyone on this board hated it...can you send me a pic of the look your going for?
Glad to see my experience helped a few other plus-sized brides feel less nervous. My dress came in, and I'm going to go for my first unofficial fitting in about a week and a half. I just want to sort of "visit" it, make sure it's the right size and then they'll put it in their climate controlled storage until it's time for alterations and to make the bolero.
Speaking of which, someone asked about the bolero. I can't copy the image from the site, but here is the link: http://www.mikaellabridal.com then click on Bolero styles. The one I like is the first one that has rouching and is long-sleeved.
I'll post back after I go "visit!"

That is the dress I wanted to try on!!! They didn't have it, so i tried others and FI fell in love with one and we got it. But I love that dress and it looks stunning on you.
As for the bolero, just something I've noticed.....many of us FF women want to cover and hide due to being self conscious, but sometimes the bolero makes us look BIGGER!!! One bride I know was wearing a strapless dress and took a pic with and w/o bolero...the difference was HUGE. Without she looked so much better, curvier in a sexy beautiful way, with she looked stuffed into it. Don't feel like you HAVE to get it, get it because you feel even more stunning in it. It may look great, but don't wear it because you feel you need to cover. Also try a sheer shawl, they fall nicely and dont add bulk. Happy shopping, cant wait to see more pics!!
BTW, I got AA 1516! Love Alfred Angelo, such great designs for the FF curvy woman!
Congrats on your pick! I love AA, my dress is 2003W, and I had a wonderful experience with them as well. I also agree with mrstobeeisme, sometimes a bolero makes us curvier girls look bulky. My dress is strapless, and I've decided to just feel comfortable in my own skin and not worry about it. There are plenty of options though if you need the coverage! Good luck!
Aw, thanks again everyone for all the sweet comments!
Ok, so my first fitting got delayed -- I'm going next week. But I do have a small update -- I met with the seamstress and instead of a bolero, we're just adding sleeves. I'm all for being comfortable in my own skin, but flappy arms just isn't the look I'm going for! ;-) She's going to create sleeves just for my upper arms. So, wish me luck!
