FH is still in training for his work and there aren't a ton of spots he can get the rest of his training.  He is trying to get a promise to do the rest of his training here, and the longer we go without hearing anything, the worse it is.  My job is extremely difficult to leave and it is my DREAM job.  It is highly unlikely to find as good a job as this, and it will also likely result in making about half of what I currently make.  I also have 2 contracts keeping me here through fall 2012 (the finacial penalty for breaking the contracts is about $200,000), and FH has 4-5 more years of training.  To make things worse, I had bought a house this spring, right before we got engaged, and everyone knows the market is bad.  Plus, if he doesn't get the position here, it might keep us from having kids- I will be 34 or 35 when he finishes training, and my doctor has advised me to have all the kids I am going to have before 35.  FH works 80 hours a week, and even if we are in the same city, I can't raise a kid virtually on my own, and we certainly can't if we aren't in the same city.  FH has a HUGE meeting tomorrow, and if he doesn't get an offer, the chances really drop.  FH knows this is bad if he doesn't geta position here, but he doesn't seem to get how disastrous it weill be.  So I'm REALLY nervous, freaking out, feeling alone, and just so scared.

    :( I'm so sorry!

Is this a new job that he's at? 80 hours a week is a LOT no matter if he's close or far. Would he consider a career change?

Sending lots of love your way!

Life and career decisions, especially when your significant other is involved, are so stressful. I totally feel for you! What is your FI training for? It certainly seems like he is working an awful lot. You both sound like you have a lot of your plates!

It sounds like something's gotta give...I'm sending lots of support your way as you guys make a decision as a team as to what is right for you.

Thanks.  FH is a surgery resident.  After 4 years of med school and six figures of loans to do a career he loves, a career change is not an option.  His meeting got moved to tomorrow morning- we'll take all the prayers we can get.

Oh my god.. I feel horrible for you! I hope everything works out and I know what it's like being on pins and needles (Waiting for a wedding date here...) but not to this extent! Just said a prayer for you!

I thought he might have been involved in medicine - those hours are simply brutal.

Let us know how that meeting goes...I'll be thinking of you!

If you want to talk to someone about what long distance marriage looks like, I know ejs has done the whole long distance marriage thing, and is pretty open to talking about it. She also gives stellar advice and is a great listener. :)
