Is there any way you can do a smaller Christmas for your kids this year?  That way you can buy some of the decor right after Christmas when it’s all on sale! Otherwise you will end up spending a ton of money and it will be super last minute, which will be stressful.

Also watch CL, tons of people are throwing stuff out or replacing them.  There is a great tutorial on pinterest to clean out colored glass bulbs and make them clear, then you can do the other tutorial on how to paint the insides the right color.

If you wait till after christmas you can at least try to snag some things on all the post-christmas sales!

@adnama: I second this, you can get decorations and stuff for an easy 75% off right after christmas. there’s a lot of pre-christmas sales too though.

Go to Target, Walmart, CVS, Walgreens, etc right now and pick up whatever catches your eye that fits your criteria. Generally, if you see something you love, you need to grab it when you see it since it most likely won’t be there during the after Christmas sales when everything is marked down for clearance. And that is speakng from experience many times over.

As far as kids’ gifts are concerned, can you get them each one “big” gift? Yeah it’s nice to open presents but it shouldn’t be the sole focus, especially if money is tight. Maybe you can do something together as a family as a gift to them, such as any fun Christmas event in your area.

Target significantly drops prices the day after christmas – I catch it every year and get great deals.  It might be worth checking out

For the tree branches you said you need, you could collect natural tree branches from outside and spray-paint them in whatever color you’d like (I think a silvery white would be gorgeous)  I am obsessed with Christmas and did a similar project for my Christmas decorating this year and it turned out awesome (I would post a pic but i don’t have any of it on this computer)….good luck!
