It happens a lot in the military.  I wish troops would think about it for a really really LONG time before putting a ring on it.  Like go through one deployment and if she is still there maybe pop the question.

@HawaiiBamaBride:  Sigh.  Not all military wives are whores – I wish this stereotype would die a quick death.

@starrynight:  I am a military wife.  I didn’t say all wives are whores and not all soliders cheat.  But it happens frequently enough for it to be a good genuine concern for troops.

A friend of mine’s wife cheated on him every time he left for training… even before he deployed for the first time. Thankfully after hearing/noticing that she maybe spent 2 nights at their place when he was gone for a 3 week long training and her keeping his bank account empty that whole time buying drugs for herself and her boyfriend… He was able to finalize the divorce a week before deploying and she was married to the guy she had been seeing after only 2 months.

@HawaiiBamaBride:  Yes, and just as often, it’s the servicemember cheating on his or her spouse.  Maybe not while deployed (although that happens) but servicemembers cheat too.  Unfortunately, being in the military does not automatically make a jerk faithful like a lot of people seem to think.  DH only knows ONE guy who’s been cheated on, and if it’s that rampant in the military, why doesn’t he know more?

Sorry for the rant, but I’ve had a few college friends who joined the military ditch me after finding out I married a military guy…because they assumed I’d become a cheating whore.  So I’m a little sensitive to this stereotype because it’s directly affected me and my friendships.

Why does your good friend keep taking her back?

@starrynight:  If you noticed in my reply to you, I put that I realize and know soliders cheat too.  While they cheat, not all of them do so either.

It’s like with everything else in life. There are stereotypes.  It is up to each individual person to overcome their stereotype.  I’m really sorry that your “friends” did not judge you by your character that they have known your entire friendship, but judge you by some silly stereotype.  That isn’t fair, but maybe that’s not the kind of friends you want anyways.

@HawaiiBamaBride:  Unfortunately, overcoming the military wife stereotype is very hard, I think in part because most people want to believe it so they have someone to bash.  I honestly can’t think of any other reason.

In my personal case, they weren’t good friends, just college classmates…but I’d have thought that would be enough that they wouldn’t lump me into the 19 year old, uneducated, stay at home mom with 3 kids and cheating every deployment stereotype.  Too bad that wasn’t enough.

I am former military and my exhusband was military as well so I personally know both sides of the spectrum as well!  I deployed to Iraq and I think 3 guys and 2 women cheated on their spouses when we were overseas together.  When we all came home, 2 couples split up when they were made aware that their spouses had been cheating.

So sad.

im in the military and knowit does happen often enough, themilitary lifstyle puts a strain on both parties that couples dont completely understand until going through it. its not a devils and angels case, there are so many grey areas to say it never happens or it always happens etc isnt fair.
