Hi Bees! Hoping for some input here. Fiance and I have been throwing first dance songs around forever. We cannot agree on one, because (and this might just be me being picky), I really want it to mean something to him as well. And for some reason, he just doesn’t think anything is “wedding material” haha..I do not get it.
So..I know that he *loves* This Year’s Love by David Grey. My question: do you think this is appropriate as a first dance song? I love the meaning of it, but “this year’s love had better last” seems so negative. Maybe I am overthinking. The song we’re tentatively decided on right now is Taylor Swift & Boys Like Girls, “Two is Better Than One.” For some reason, these are some of the only two options he will entertain but I’m not sold on either.
IDK – opinions on either song?

I am a die-hard David Gray fan, but could not get past the words of that song for our first dance. It’s a story about an exhausted hurt person who is trying to collapse into their next relationship with the hopes that it will last “because it’s high time”. I chose not to use it. I almost walked down the aisle to the instrumental version, though. Figured that’d be less obvious 😉
Oh and I would pass on the Taylor Swift song. She is fun but gives off a bit of a “kiddish” vibe. I don’t know that i’d want angsty teenager music to open my marriage.

Another huge David Gray fan here, but I agree with Crayfish in that the lyrics have a sad meaning so I wouldn’t use that for a first dance song. If you really love the song, you could have it played during the reception as another slow song?

Agree with the others, LOVE David Gray but that song, lovely as it is, doesn’t seem entirely appropriate.

If you like David Gray, have you thought about “Be Mine”? It’s a beautiful song and the lyrics are more appropriate for a wedding.

I’m so glad I’m not the only one. I did some google searches, and the song actually came up in some first dance lists! I was confused, thinking maybe I misinterpreted it. I agree about the Taylor Swift song, too – did you guys try to find a song you both liked? Fiance is willing to do two dances, so we can each “dedicate” a song to the other. He chose “I wanna grow old with you” ..yup, Adam Sandler. That was not my first choice..and he said he doesn’t mind if I choose a different one, but I feel like it won’t mean as much to him during the moment. oy! I think I’m overthinking it!

I went to a wedding where this was the first dance song, and while the music was beautiful, all the guys at our table kept saying it was from some sex scene in The Girl Next Door…
