What weird moments have you felt while planning your wedding?
Mine hit me while I was watching SYTTD and realized that the brides on the show were spending more on gowns that I’m spending on my entire wedding. Awesome that they have the means to do so, but it was weird.

i feel like that every time i watch the show. i see people with budgets of $10k or $20k, and i’m like, “uh… that’s a whole wedding.” makes me wonder whether the bride’s wedding will actually have the elements that i think make a wedding awesome- good food, friends and family, and lots of love.

colorofmyheart: Why would a large wedding dress budget necessarily mean that those elements (“good food, friends and family, and lots of love”) wouldn’t be present? How is that related to the $$$$$?
renwoman: I’ve felt weird during planning because I work for a wedding planner, and I don’t plan on using her. She has hinted at it, and it would be super backward to pay my boss to be my planner or my coordinator. Why would I? I can do all of this myself for free lol

For me the weirdness really hits when my grandma and I are talking about the wedding and it just clicks again that I’m getting married. It’s still a weird thing for me to think about, but in a good way. 🙂
My mom and I had a ‘weird moment’ at the bridal show where we found my dress. We were looking at the gown booths, and every single time, we would both agree that one of the dresses was decent. Nothing caught my eye really. And then, out of nowhere, some girl and her mom would saunter up, ask about a dress’s price (which was always about 7-15K) and then immediately say “Oh good! That’s still under budget!” My mom and I were flabbergasted.

I think the weirdest moments are when people ask me about our budget… like seriously, my family will be like, “well how much are you spending?”, and they make it sound like we are spending SOOOO much. We have a budget of 14k.. which is decent [to me], but nothing crazy!

LadyAprill: i’ve been to my share of big weddings. and in my experience, the more money is spent, the less people actually enjoy themselves, and it becomes more of a “oh look how much money we have” show and less of a time to spend with family and friends. that’s just my experience, though. it might be completely exclusive to the couples i know who had those big weddings.
