I have a suspicion i may be getting a promise ring from my boyfriend for Christmas.. but then again it might just be me being paranoid and really wanting one hahaaha.. but did you buy your SO a promise ring too? I was thinking of taking my dads old wedding band (my parents are divorced) just in case haaha.. Post pictures of your promise ring and his if he has one!(:

I have one and no, I didn’t buy him one. He refuses to even wear a wedding band so I suppose it’s a lost cause with this one.

My FI and I gave each other promise rings on our first anniversary in 2007. We were both 17 at the time, so didn’t have a terribly large budget so they are very simple and inexpensive. We wanted the symbolism more than the aesthetics. Also, FI being the adorkable (yes, adorkable) man that he is, insisted we wear them on our right hands in order to save our left hands for THE rings. And I’m glad we did because I have grown so accustomed to this little piece of metal and what it signifies that it would have been so incredibly difficult to take it off when I got my engagement ring.
FI promise ring is the same design as mine, but it’s wider to suit “man hands” 😉

I have one. SO was pretty cute about when he gave me mine. He was like “um so do I need to wear one too?” I told him only if he wanted to and he looked relieved. He’s not much of a jewelry person either lol!

@rodeoidahochic: I would save my dad’s wedding band for just that, a wedding band. I in no way mean to offend, but having lost my dad maybe it just has a LOT more meaning to me? I can’t imagine what I would do if I gave it for a promise ring and things didn’t work out and I never got it back… I would be crushed to say the least.
For a promise ring, I would buy him something that is in both your taste and his, so it’s something fresh and new that you two share together. I would save your dad’s wedding band as an heirloom and give it to him after he proposes and things are more official. Just my 2 cents.

@rodeoidahochic: Yes! I have a promise ring that I got almost two years ago, and I got him one also. It’s a black band with the words “together we will be weightless” engraved on the inside. He loves wearing it… to be honest, I’d be kinda upset if my SO wouldn’t wear a ring that symbolizes our relationship, especially a wedding band.

My FI gave me a promise ring the first year we moved in together for Christmas. We didn’t have a lot of money and had been together for 2 years at this point in time. We had been through quite a lot in those years with unemployment and moving in togehter and bills etc but of course we made it through. My FI hates rings, he can never get comfortable with them plus his job doesn’t allow any jewellery so hes not use to them so I never bought one for him. I still have the promise ring but don’t wear it as I have my engagement ring and I can’t really wear much jewellery with diamonds due to my job as well. I take my rings off when I work so I don’t get bacteria in my diamonds. This is a stock photo of what mine looked like.

My FI and I both gave each other promise rings! His is a simple white gold band with our anniversary engraved on the inside, and he gave me a beautiful band with CZ’s that I adore but I’m allergic to! They were both under the $100 mark! I think his was $50 including the engraving!
I’d keep your dad’s wedding ring as a wedding ring for your SO, but I suppose you could talk to your dad about this?
I don’t have a photo of my FI’s ring!

I actually just ordered a pair of promise rings (cheap because we’re both students, but still something while waiting) for the both of us. It will be my Christmassurprise for him… Hope he likes them!!! They look like this one, only white gold 🙂 Small and practiacl, we both work in a lab so they need to be 😉

@SarahTee: My FI and I have matching bands on our right hands (ring finger) too! His is also quite a bit wider than mine. We got them less than a month after getting together. Now that we’re engaged, I still wear it. I’m not sure if I’ll ever take it off…

@kitkat2014: I really don’t think I will take it off, at least not until it turns really crappy. Granted, I’ve had it over half a decade and it still looks fine to me, so I don’t see why I’d ever have to take it off. I will probaby take it off on the wedding day so that I can wear my e-ring on my right hand. However, I plan on pinning it in my boobs (lol romantic, huh?) so it’s still with me when I say my vows.

Yes, we both do!
It was my idea, around our 1.5 anniversary. He was getting ready to move away to his new job soon, and I had been spending too much time on weddingbee and I was feelin’ the fever. Luckily, he thought it was cute, and we both agreed to spend $30 or less on amazon and order each other one.
He absolutely loves his. He plays with it all the time, because its so perfectly weighted. And of course I stare at mine all the time 😛

The bottom ring is my promise ring that FI gave me for our first anniversary. He does not and would not wear a promise ring.

I have a promise ring! He gave it to me on our first anniversary, The purple flower part is my birthstone, and then on the sides there are a total of 12 little diamonds to symbolize the 12 months !! (: I didn’t get him a ring though… I didn’t even know that was a thing…. :S He will be wearing a weddig ring in less than 8 months though! And I can’t wait to see it on his finger!

i got mine after a HUGE fight around the 4 year mark lol. Its a half eternity. He wants me to wear it on my left hand as my place holder and to ‘make sure other guys know you’re taken’ sighhhhh lol
but he doesn’t wear one, nor wants one. He’s a ring person, but after discussing it he only wants a wedding band.
maybe you can talk about this with your boyfriend once you get your ring? And congrats 🙂
