No it doesn’t seam reasonable unless you are shipping it overnight.  I sold a dress to someone in Canada and I think I only charged her $40-50 to ship it.  It should be around $30-40 using priority mail — a lot less with parcel post.  You should keep in mind the dimensions of the box you use will affect pricing.  I found 24″x12″12″ an adequate size.

Yeah that is a bit steap. My dress was in a garment bag folded in half in a regular size box. It’s not like she has to play extra to ship it flat or anything like that.

Yes, it is reasonable if it is a voluminous dress and it is insured. GET IT INSURED. When I sold my J. Crew ballgown, it cost me $10 for the box, $80 for the shipping and $15 for the insurance to ship from Boston to California.

When I sold mine the shipping was around $100. It was to Alaska though and thats including insurance!

@Willow1991:  There’s a lot of variables in shipping cost, so it could be reasonable. Why don’t you just make her an offer of what you’re willing to pay including shipping and see what she says?

i find the problem with many brides trying to sell their dresses is that they still are very attached to their dresses so they try to get 60-90% of the value and they add in alterations cost to the pricing.  they have to remember that unless it’s a highly sought after dress, many samples can be purchased for about 50% of the original value so a used dress should go for that price or less.

also when you ship, you have to be mindful about the shipping costs.  i try to reuse a nice sturdy box but i also work in an office where we are constantly ordering things that come packaged in really great boxes and often the boxes just get recycled by the night cleaning crew so i grab nice sized boxes and have a stash of shipping boxes.  it drives the bf crazy.  that way i don’t have to charge the buyer for the cost of a box. but i know not everyone has access to boxes.

i also know that certain dimensions get charged funky rates by the post office.  i sold a watters lasara dress to someone in canada and a jim hjelm empire dress to someone in the states and i was able to send both for under $50 (with insurance).  and i always pay for insurance on my own because that’s for my own piece of mind. (btw: i’m not a used dress dealer.  i have a problem with buying wedding dresses.  when i change my mind, i post them for sale.)

i say that if the person is being difficult, then you should just forget about the dress.  look for another seller or another dress.
