- Wedding: October 2011
I’ve been obsessed with weddings for as long as I can remember. I was totally that little girl who would play wedding with her Barbies and dream of the day when it would be my turn. At around 15 or so I started looking at bridal mags and making binders (nutjob, I know). Becoming a wedding planner has always been a dream of mine but after planning my own wedding, I’m not sure I’m quite ready to take on other peoples. Eventually I would love to but I want to go through the proper channels.
In the mean time I’ve been thinking about starting a shower planning business. I looooooove planning showers, maybe even moreso than weddings. I’m in the process of planning my FSIL’s baby shower and not to toot my own horn or anything, but this thing is going to be amazing. I was thinking about the type of person my MOH is and how she is so far from a planner it’s not even funny. In the beginning she actually told me that she was cool with me planning my own shower and she just taking credit for it. I realize this is a big no-no so I told her to get together with my mom and aunt to plan it but a lot of MOH’s don’t have the convenience of having other people to lean on.
So here’s my question, do you think a shower planning business could be successful or is it a stupid idea? The concept is pretty simple… the hosts choose their theme, select the foods and what not to be served and I (as well as my FMIL since I think she’d be interested in doing it with me) put everything together. We would do all of the planning, projects, organization, set-up, break-down, basically everything that goes into hosting a shower for the hosts so they don’t have to do it.
I see Bees posting about how they wish they could have a bridal or baby shower but the people in their lives are too busy doing their own thing to really have the time or energy to devote to planning a shower. With my business concept, they could retain our company, pay us a fee for “hosting” it and throw their loved one an awesome shower.
Go for it or terrible idea? Be honest, I can take it! 🙂
