We used wishpot.com, which is a universal registry. To be honest, we only got a few items off that registry. We mostly recieved money, and what items we did get, were off our Target registry. I think it depends on how web savvy your guests are. Most of the gifts we got from Wishpot were from our younger, web savvy guests.
My FI wants to register there.. To him, it is convenient and they carry all kinds of stuff, but he is also a computer person and not everyone is. I am not sure how the guest would feel, though...
Hmmm, I've never even thought about registering at Amazon.com. I'm going to have to check it out.
We have an amazon.com registry and it's great! FFIL recommended it to us because it was so easy for him to use for a wedding he went to last year. It's great for registering for really obscure items. For example, we used the universal registry button for our sheets (we have a california queen bed...I know...no one has ever heard of them...) because not even amazon carries sheets for our bed. We've had a few people purchase gifts off of there, it's especially good for international guests...I won't really know how successful it is until it gets closer to the big day.
We have a registery at Amazon and I love it! Browsing for something else and come across the PERFECT [insert thing here]? Just add it to your registry! Plus, its let us add "strange" things like board games, power tools (umm..those would be for me.), artwork, and decorative pieces (windchimes are the oddest on our list). i like that it lets you put short notes with things. All the sheets we registered for have a note saying "any sheet set 400 TC+ in blue, green, white, ivory, brown or red is awesome! this is just a suggestion. Feel free to shop around for better prices!" And next to the Japenese screens I note "[rabbit]'s wanted one of these since she was 10." i like letting our friends and family know WHY we want/need it!
We have a registry set up at Amazon. No one's bought anything from there yet (a bit far out still) but it's great as a birthday/Christmas list for family, as well as being super flexible in what we put on there. Yes, there's the KitchenAid, but there's also a ton of books and board games! Like rabbit said, I like the comment section - it feels nice to explain why we want things, or what about them we like!
I'm assuming the non-tech-savvy will give money or ask a more tech-savvy friend/family member for help.

Have any of you 'bees tried the Amazon.com registry? Amazon was recommended by a few married friends - not so much for all the completion perks, but for affordability for guests (since they can buy from any seller & Amazon will support returns). Also, this seems great for those who may want some not so traditional items (FH & I have lived together for 9 years now, so we have most cookware & home decor), like HDTVs or kayak or scrapbooking furniture.
Saving the best for last, Amazon has a Universal registry button - if you see something on any web page from any store or seller (even Etsy.com!), you can click a button (that you put in your toolbar from the Amazon registry site), fill in the listed price & state in the comment box where to find it, & it will appear on your Amazon.com registry!
Just wondering what all your thoughts are on non-traditional registries, and Amazon.com (if you've had experience with their registry or wish list)?
