i think it would definitely look nice and tie in, but it would also get in the way i think? i assume you would have to remove it to open and read the programs, so then you might have these belly bands lying everywhere
Maybe you could cut them and then glue the edges to the inside of the covers? That way they have the appearance like a band, but it doesn't stop you from reading the programs. Unless you wanted to do a single page one, and in that case you could use them as a header design?
@PurpleUnicorn: Yea, that's what I was thinking of, lol. FI doesn't think it's a big deal, but it's a lot of work for people just to throw it everywhere :-).

Or could this be an alternative to a paper belly band? Then they can untie the ribbon? Thanks!

I was just browsing my local Michaels today (very dangerous) and I saw an idea of putting a belly band around wedding programs. Our wedding invitations have a belly band/ribbon around them and FI and I thought it would be nice to sort of tie in that theme with our programs as well. FI really likes it, but I was wondering if it was functional to have a belly band around the program? What are your thoughts? We received some ivory program paper with the pearl border as a gift, so we're finding ways to dress it up.
Here are our invites (in progress) and also an example of the belly band with an invite. We were thinking about using the same red/gold paper combination with the ribbon as with our programs. Any opinions are appreciated! Thanks!
