I bought a ton of chocolates in December to use as favors for our wedding.

When I looked at them in the store it looked like a foil wrapper and a label over top so I was going to remove the label and put my own on but when I got them home I realized the label and wrapper are one. Of course. And they're also shades of gold and navy blue for one kind of chocolate and red and purple for the other, our colors are black, white and turquoise. :S

So I did some research and came across a few websites of people in similar situations who used wallpaper to wrap over the existing labels, they just cut the wallpaper to size and glued it on. Pretty smart huh? I happen to have a lot of extra wallpaper from decorating the house but here's the issue, I have 2 different patterns but one is a shiny gold background with large black and white flowers. Might not translate well when cut into 4"x3" squares. The other pattern is a chocolate brown background with turquoise and champagne large-size flowers and leaves.

My question is this: if I were to use the wallpaper, do you think anyone would care that they don't match the theme? Do you think they would go well together if I were to wrap the dark chocolates in one and the milk chocolates in the other? Would you tackle this project or am I just crazy, should I just use the chocolates as they are?

    Thanks so much!

I wouldn't bother wrapping them if they're not going to coordinate. I think they'd probably look best if you leave them as is. For me, the benefit wouldn't outweigh the effort!

@simplifiedbride:  I agree with this. It seems like a lot of work for something most people won't notice.

Have you checked into how long chocolates will stay fresh tasting? 8 months seems like a long time to me.

freeze the chocolates. How detail oriented are you? If it will really bug you they dont match then sure...

I would probably buy those little organza bags that are cheap, but that are in my color and toss the different colored chocolate in the bag.

OR I would just add the labels you originally planned to do.

but I wouldn't personally at this point add more work to myself:p

@Julies/Ms Bookworm: (FYI it's more like 6 months)

    • The shelf life of chocolate is generally a year. Ingredients such as nuts will shorten the shelf life. Chocolate kept beyond 1 year may suffer flavor loss or texture changes.  ---

@Angelzlove: I am pretty type-A so this is kind of bugging me.. I have enough on my plate already and I definetely don't need to add more and I really don't think anyone will notice/care but all favors I've seen have been personalized. I probably wouldnt care so much if they were closer to our wedding colors but these don't match at all... What if I put them, wrapperless, in organza bags and put those in the pillow boxes?

I completely understand, but at the end of the day, no one is going to care about the wrappers on your chocolate.  How about putting them in a cute, personalized box?

please don't use wallpaper or glue anywhere near those chocolates.  your guests will be eating them.

you can unwrap them and put them in petit four cups and put them in a box.  boxes come in all different colours and wrap them in a matching wedding colour.

Ok maybe I'm a little cranky today but I find your post offensive. I have pillow boxes I plan on using. I would not glue the chocolates, just the wallpaper or whatever to the wrapper and the chocolate would not go back in it until I'm certain its dry. I have researched this and several sites said no harm will come to the chocolate if enough care is taken. I have been researching other ideas all day and am getting nowhere. these chocolates are not big enough to warrant petit four boxes, they were bought to go in pillow boxes.

another suggestion; go to a specialty candy or chocolate shop and buy some of their coloured foils (made for food items) and wrap them in that.  then put them in the pillow boxes.

Just put them in the pillow boxes.  You won't even have to unwrap them and the different colours would be a neat little surprise.  THe pillow boxes can be in your colours and that would be fine! :)
