I looked at the Foundry bc I live in Astoria, but all the rentals to make the space cozy add up , and we found that the $ we'd spend on all the different rentals began to add up too quickly for our liking. We had it at the Angel Orensanz in Manhattan instead and still spent less than we would have at the Foundry--and they're strict about some vebdors, you cann only use their people (at least for furntiture like sofas, etc).
My male BFF is likely going to get married there bc he's keeping it fairly small (120-125), but both our feelings that for a crowd any larger in less than perfect weather could feel slightly claustrophobic. He's doing an early Sept wedding (which I did also), so he's using the outdoor space, but for a winter wedding, I'd lean more towards the Liberty Warehouse. What were your thoughts on the LW when you saw it?
@Eden Di Bianco: Hey- I have never heard of the Angel Orensanz before but just looked at the site to it and it is GORGEOUS! At first I thought it was a church and since we are jewish that would not probably work for us and then I realized it was a synagogue- yay! I am just curious--approximately how much did it cost per person when you had your wedding there? We would need the food to be glatt kosher so would probably have to hire outside catering. I tried looking online for prices but couldn't find anything! grrr!
I will definitely check out Angel Orensanz! Sounds very cool.
I really loved Liberty Warehouse - the views of the Statue of Liberty and skyline can't be beat, the building is super nice, and there are working fireplaces (perfect for a winter wedding)... I'm just waiting to hear what the price will be -- and hopefully do a tasting so we are good with the food. I also prefer the neighborhood to the Foundry's location - though both are going to require some sort of shuttle for our out-of-towners I think.
@lexkat: I would love to hear whether you have booked at Liberty Warehouse. And, are there others who have signed for weddings there? Also, any feedback from those who have used the facilities.
@momme: We ultimately are not going with Liberty - I have to say, the guy there just did not rub us the right way and was not willing to bargain with us at all, even though every other place we met with (including many highly regarded Manhattan locations) were willing to come down in prices in different areas for a winter date (whether it be offering lesser shelf alcohol, taking off part of the ceremony fee, etc). Everyone may have a different experience with them but we decided we did not feel like working with this specific employee. We are still debating between a couple of places, hoping to decide soon!
@lexkat: Thanks for the update. Since I like your taste, if you do not mind, would you share the venues you like?
@momme: Sure! We are still considering the Foundry (I'm trying to figure out how it adds up to rent chairs/tables/catering/bar/etc on top of the site fee, which is kinda pricey), also really liked Stage 6 at Steiner Studios (Abigail Kirsch), Bridgewaters (cool look with boats on the ceiling but may be too big for us) - and I keep hearing good things about Angel Orensanz (like above post) so I would like to check it out. Oh, also: http://www.guastavinos.com/#/gallery looks very cool with the vaulted ceilings, but I haven't seen it in person yet!
Oh I also thought of Galapagos in Dumbo was a really interesting and cool space (and wouldn't require too much extra decorating!) but ultimately I think we want a band/dance floor, which their layout doesn't really work so well with (they said if you have a dj/ipod, you can use the stage as a dance floor)
Ah, my head is kind of spinning - so many choices!
@lexkat: I had the same experience with a man I talked to at Liberty Warehouse, I wonder if it was the same person. I didn't even write his name down because after the initial phone call I was so turned off by the place. He came across as very condescending, like he was doing me a favor by even talking to me, he acted very rushed, etc. Listen, I know people are busy but he could have set up a different time to talk instead of acting like I'm some sort of pain in the ass. It's expensive too - if I am going to shell out well over $30K for the honor of having my wedding at your precious venue, I expect to be treated with a little more politeness.
@momme: Ended up going with Stage 6 at Steiner Studios (which is an Abigail Kirsch) venue. I've heard mostly postivie things about AK (including from a friend of a friend who works for them). My fiance liked it the most of any of the venues we looked at, and they were really willing to work with us to fit our budget.
So now I have the place and date, just need to do all the other million little things...
@lexkat: I have been to Stage 6 for a wedding. I thought it was wonderful. The atmosphere was excellent and the room was very comfortable. The ceremony was on the terrace with really great views. The food was excellent. I have been to several Abigain Kirsch venues and the food is always good and presented well.
@momme: Thank you for saying that!
Where are you getting married (or have you already), by the way?
@momme: Very nice! I have not been there myself but have only heard great things! Congrats!
I just had a wedding at Liberty on a rainy, cold march day and the fireplaces and space were so welcome and cozy. Good luck!
What are the basic site fees for the Foundry that you guys were quoted? I've seen varied reports online..

Sorry, there are no users yet.
We're planning a wedding for winter 2013 for between 130-150 people. Doesn't have to be sit down dinner, could be passed apps/buffet. Have been looking for venues (mostly in Brooklyn where we met and live) and recently toured a lot - I think we are narrowing it down between Liberty Warehouse and the Foundry... Also like Prospect Park Picnic House, but it doesn't have quite as much character.
Does anyone have experience with either?
Recommendations or problems?
Thanks!
