I’ve had some bm dress drama and I’m so sick and tired of worrying about it. Long story short, I love my girls and wouldn’t want anyone else but them standing up with me. Problem is, pretty much all of them are broke as a joke. I told them months and months and months ago that we needed to get the dresses ordered so they would be here in time. Gave them every detail, found the absolute best deal on them by comparison shopping. They would have been about 150, including tax and shipping. The deadline came and went. I know there is nothing that they could have done, it’s not like they blew their money on other frivolous things. I’ve been really laid back and really just wanted a dress that everyone liked and would be comfortable in. If they could wear it again then even better. The original bm dresss was the bill levkoff 323 in glacier. all my girls are slim and tall. it’s an outdoor garden wedding.
I’ve been searching for something in a similar color and style and have found many, but they are all in the same price range. Target has one but the reviews are terrible. I’m really open minded and don’t want to do anything to cause my girls stress or worry. I’ve already had one try to back out because she was so ashamed and guilty that she couldn’t afford to order it. I’d much rather find a more reasonable alternative that doesn’t take ages to come in and that doesn’t cost so much. I assured her that the other girls were having the same issues and she wasn’t alone.
Fast forward to last weekend: I’m hanging out with my bm Erin in her bedroom and she shows me the dress she just got on clearance at target. It’s the Robert Rodrieguez for Neiman Marcus + Target black lace party dress. It’s discontinued and not available online or in most stores. I did find them on ebay so it’s doable. I loved the dress from the first moment I saw it at target during the holidays. I was open to black lace dresses when I first started looking but never found one I loved.
So what do you bees think, should I go with the original idea of minty chiffon and find one that works? The other option I had was going with a David’s bridal style similar to the Bill Levkoff but not in the shade I want. It’s just as expensive as the Levkoff and not the right color but it would come in on time and everyone could go in and order their own. I’ll add a poll and photos of the dresses. Thanks for the feedback, ladies!
For the record, my dress is lace. the allure 8850, i’ll add a photo of that too.
I realize that I in no way made this long story short so i apologize. 😀
Bill Levkoff in Glacier(basically same dress but without the flowery things and has a slightly longer waist)
David’s Bridal alternate dress (not the color I wanted but is a good compromise if i must)
and finally the lovely black lace party dress from target
my dress, allure 8850

@janetsnakehole: First of all, I think YOUR dress is beautiful!! I think you should just do whatever you envision. If that is the Bill Levcoff, do it!! But I do like the DB one too. The Target one, I LOVE but I don’t know if it really “goes” with your dress.

I love the black lace dress from Target! But it’s quite different from your original BL choice… I think ultimately it’s up to you to decide which fits your vision. If you are able to pay for the BL dresses up front yourself, maybe your girls can arrange some sort of ‘payment plan’ with you, where they pay you in increments so it’s not such a heavy hit to the wallet all at once.

Because your friends are broke, I’d go with the Target dress. It’s cute, it’s pretty affordable. I feel like if you order the original dress and plan to be reimbursed, you run the risk of being in a very akward situation where your friends owe you money (and may not be able to when you need the money back).

I would check out a few more non bridal stores for better deals. They have gorgeous dresses at Modcloth. Com which is where I got my bms dresses for $50 each. They were so affordable that I could pay for them for my girls although I only have two so jo big expense. They may not look as bridesmaidsy but maybe you ll find one you like 🙂

I like them all, The only concern I would have is the length of the target one, I don’t like dreses too short and they always fit differently in real life, take your girls and try them on, it if works that is awesome!

What if each girl just got a black dress the she likes, as long as they are all the same length I think it will look nice together in a garden setting.
I’ve been having the same issue with my girls. We decided on Bill Levkoff and color, but I wanted them to pick a style in chiffon that they liked, needless to say, it’s been hard to get them to go try stuff on and commit to a dress at all. If I wasn’t pushing the issue of the deadline nothing would get done. If you want uniformity, then do the target dress, it soounds like a happy medium.

@janetsnakehole: Love you dress and I love that Target dress. I would have bought one myself when it was out but they didn’t have my size.
I think it’s important to have their dress kind of match yours. I don’t mean matchy-match, but just not clash. Unfortunately I think the first 2 dresses styles are so different that it would be a little strange.
I do love the other 2 dresses, though. Our BM’s are similar to the Bill Levkoff ones, but in mint and minus the flowers. They’re flowy and breezy, which goes well with my style of wedding dress.

yeah and at this point i don’t even know if the Bill Levkoff would come in in time without adding a $50 rush fee per dress. I’m really not in a position to buy them all right now but would if I had to. Since it’s ultimately my decision I know I don’t have to which is why I have been looking for alternatives. The hive is really the only place I could get all that out and not have people(non-brides) look at me like i’m out of my tree.
In my original newly-engaged pinning frenzy I had envisioned black lace dresses for the bms. I even started a thread asking anyone if they had them or had suggestions. I do love the idea of lace but wasn’t sure if it “fit” the venue. I also loved the minty chiffon but don’t want a shade that is too blue or too pastel green, if that makes sense.
AAARRRGGGHHH. i can’t believe i’m stressed over something so trivial as a shade of mint, but i AM! Seriously never thought I woudl be this bride.

@AlbertaLolita: Trust me, I have been looking into all sorts of different places for a dress. Not just traditional bridesmaid’s retailers.
The other issue I have is that one of the bm’s, while slimmish, would need a size 12 or 14 to fit her sizeable chest. She’s about a 36G. So going with a modcloth or etsy dress, which usually run in s-m-l sizes isn’t really an option.

Get the black dress! it goes so nicely with your wedding dress!

If they can’t afford the dress, go with something cheaper. It’s your wedding, but they are your friends and their well being is more important then the right shade of mint. The Target dress is very cute, so I would either select that one or go with a cheaper option if you want colour:
