So we bought the stone and we’re looking at it this weekend. We had a limited budget and I sacrificed where I felt I could so that I could still have a 3/4 diamond. I’m hoping the SI2 and I color won’t be too unbearabe to look at!If we don’t like it, we’ll send it back but I really hope it’s the one!!
Mostly I’m just really excited to be one step closer to getting engaged!! Thoughts on my new rock?

An I color in an Excellent cut will look great! And I’m not sure why SI2 should be “unbearable” – all I can see is some thin twinning wisps that are barely noticeable even at 40x magnification.
My only concern is that it scored higher than a 2 on the HCA tool: http://www.pricescope.com/tools/hca, but if you love it in person and it’s sparkly, then you can just disregard that completely – a GIA certified Excellent cut is going to be a much better performer than most diamonds you see in real life anyway!

@cranraspberry: yeah, I saw that it scored a little high. I saw that after we bought it, of course 😉
im hoping that I can use good judgment when I see it. We may shop around a little once we have it, so that we can compare it in person with other stones. Best case scenario, is that it blows us away and we just know its the one.
Thanks for your thoughts!!

@mousiegirl: no problem! I’m sure you’ll love it. As I said, it’s going to be MUCH better cut than most of the stones you see in real life, and cut is king. 🙂
And I can definitely relate – I almost went nuts the first couple of days after we ordered the ring, and I was second guessing the choice like crazy. I’m sure yours will come as a very pleasant surprise.
By the way, if you do decide to go to some brick and mortar jewellers, I’d really recommend going to a window to compare the stones. The lights they have in those stores are meant to make anything shine like crazy, so you’re better off taking a look in natural light.

@gemgirl6: Thanks!! I’m hoping it is gorgeous and sparkly!! I sort of have my heart set on this James Allen setting but I have read mixed reviews on it. I feel like the safe bet would be to put the stone in a simple, gold setting but I just keep coming back to this one(and the price is right)
