I think it will very much llok like your inspiration pictures!!! It will be worth the trouble!!
Exactly ejs! They are obviously not shells but it's the look and feel I'm going for. I priced she'lls and it was about $200 for the number I estimated in the pics. So not worth the cost for real, IMO
I think it looks great too. Maybe you want to add a weight at the bottom, since I'm sure the shells are a lot heavier than the tissue paper. Without the added weight, the tissue paper strands might blow around like crazy.
I really like them. I've been contemplating something similar but I might not have enough time and it might not be important enough in the end.
@Jacqi: Thanks for the thought on the wind but I've already come up with a solution! I used glass beads inbetween them to add some weight and at the bottom there is a larger glass pendant/bead. My mom and I did a wind test and they stay in place well
Thanks everyone. FH likes them too! Makes me smile
Definitely keep on truckin'- we did something similar with fake flowers strung on fishing line for our arch. It took a while, but it turned out to be one of my favorite details of our wedding!
@lemondrop: Do you have pics? That sounds so pretty
Great thinking! I really hope you'll post photos of your wedding once it's said & done! I've seen a handful of your ideas/projects & I just can't wait to see how it comes together!
Nice work as always, Sanddollar!
I love this look. Can you tell me exactly how you made them from mod podge and tissue paper?
@Recessionista: I'll be sure to post some pics...I can't wait even though the wedding is still like 6 months away!
@be2much4u2handle: I actually used some wire and wax paper (for support) as well...I made wire rings using my mod podge container as a template and then trimmed the ends of the wire. I glued the rings to the wax paper and allowed them to dry. Once dried I mod podged tissue paper ontop of the wax paper circles. After applying two coats to the front side I then cut out the circles and repeated the process on the back. Once finished I allowed my "shells" to dry completely and strung them using beading filament and a combination of glass/plastic beads. The completed strands are currently hanging around my kitchen to cure as the mod podge can be tacky for several days. I'm working on a tutorial so that should help explain. If you have other questions in the mean time PM me.
I LOVE them. I actually maybe like them better than the shells. The only thing I'd say is because these are probably a lot lighter than a string of shells, maybe you should add something to the bottom to weigh the strands down so they don't flow TOO much in the wind and get tangled.
OMG i have been looking to do the same thing! your idea is awesome but i would really like a few more details so i can copy :) (if you dont mind...)
@krista: I explained the process for be2much4u2handle above. If you still have question PM me
I think this looks great! I would never know it wasn't the real thing if you hadn't told me.

I really need your honest opinions on this one!
I'm trying to make a faux capiz shell curtain similar to the ones in my inspritation pictures and the one Mrs. Yorkie used in her wedding arch. The amount of shells I would need would get rather costly (I like the full look across the back) so I'm making them out of mod podge and tissue paper.
Here are my inspirations:
and here is my attempt:
Please keep in mind that the strands would go to the floor and you wouldn't be this close to them (think more like the inspiration pics). This is just one strand doubled over to get an idea of the look. I wanted some opinions before I continued since it's a lengthy process but will only cost ~$25.00 to complete.
So what do you think? Does it look similar to the real ones used in the pictures? Please be honest and any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks in advance!!
