I have been going back and forth debating if I want more of a traditional wedding dress or a nice high end dress that I could potentially wear again. I came across the below Alexander McQueen dress that I absolutely LOVE.
Question is: do you think I could make it work as a wedding dress? AND: does anyone have any first hand experience with dying fabrics (I would prefer to have it professionally done, if that’s even possible.) I would love to have it dyed another color after the wedding.
The dress is 100% silk chiffon…

I’ve never dyed a wedding dress, but I’ve dyed many fabrics. Silk is dyeable, although you’ll have to pick a specific dye made for a protein based material. Read the labels, it’ll tell you if it’s a dye for a synthetic (like polyester), plant based (like cotton) or protein/animal based (like silk or wool). The only potential downside is because it’s a natural fiber, you may see slight variation in the color. Totally doable though. I would personally pick an actual color for the dye (not black) because the fabric will lend itself better to the process. As long as you’re not committed to an exact shade, I think you’ll be happy. You’ll get close to the color you pick, but it’s hard to match exactly.
As far as it being a wedding dress, I think it’s beautiful, classic and elegant. You can easily up the drama with earrings or a statement necklace.

I think this is a stunning wedding dress! I am thinking of dying as well, and I would probably use http://www.metrodyeing.com/

Thanks for all the advice ladies. I may call our local store and see if they have one in stock. If so I may pull the trigger on it!

I can’t add anything to what MariContray said but that dress it to die for. Much lovelier than most traditional wedding dresses imho. May I ask where you found it?

Vionnet: Thank you so much. I found it on the Alexander McQueen’s website (http://www.alexandermcqueen.com) I know some may consider it too plain, but I LOVE it. I think its classic and timeless, AND if I can get it dyed, it would be a great formal dress to wear at other events or functions.
