    My first post. . .

I am 31, engaged to a 33 year old man who I dearly love. His family is kooky and disinterested in our wedding. Most of my family has passed away (I have two brothers left). A little saddened that there was not more celebration about our engagement (maybe it is that we are in our 30's???), we are still very excited about having our dream wedding.

So excited that I now have three dresses. . . I am a girl who desired a pearl engagement ring becuase I am concerned about the conflict regardng the diamond trade. . .yet I have three dresses. . . help!  I just keep buying them. I can't stop. There is no end in sight.

Dress #1: I visited a local southern bridal shop and tried on a couture designer dress. V-neck, lace, trumpet. Beautiful. Way out of my price range. I do a little internet research and find a dressmaker in China, same neighborhood where the original is supposedly manufactured. So I order one of those custom China Ebay dresses for $188. Ugh. Ordered March7th, it should arrive soon. Here is the ebay posting. I will post pics of the actual dress when (if) it arrives. . .

Dress#2: Fearing I just purchased a plastic shower curtain covered in fish net, I go dress browsing at a local southern bridal shop. They are having a sample sale. I try on a $2000 Mikaella priced at $103. It fits perfect and is in mint condition. Not my style, or so I thought, I still bought it. Needs a hem and a bustle. It is hanging in my closet. . . Here she is!

Three dress bride. . .and counting : wedding dresses three compulsive shopping Mikaella

Dress #3: Just looking on Ebay. . . Find a beautiful dress from Couture Collections. Bid $22 on it and win. . . It is on the way. I can modify the sash and add a train without difficulty.

Three dress bride. . .and counting : wedding dresses three compulsive shopping Couture Collection

I am thinking about having a girls night and testing them out. I then plan to give the other two (or more!) to the Cinderella Project (a charity for helping local disadvantaged girls get Prom and Quint dresses).

What do you think Bees? Anyone else have a dress-buying problem?

    Hi LorettaLynn,

I am so sorry you didn't get the big exciting congratulations that you would have liked. I got a similar reaction from my parents, the "it's about time, you are almost 30 and live together, so we expected it". So here's congratulations to you and I hope you have the amazing wedding you want!!!

As for the dress, I love the Mikaella and have ordered a Mikaella myself, they are so well made and fit really well. I think that you have a great idea about trying them on with friends and then donating the extras to the Cinderella project!!! Good luck with your decision!

I personally like the second one but I agree that you will have to try them on.  A majority of people end up buying a wedding dress that was totally differen't than they had in mind.  With those prices you can sell the ones you don't use and still make a profit haha.

I was 25 when I got engaged (will be 27 when I get married) and there was no big comotion made about it.  I had no party, a few congratulations and that's about it.  Our wedding is five months away and I feel like I have to keep reminding people about it.

I think the first dress is gorgeous, and if the Ebay dressmaker does a good job, you should go with that one!

The 1st dress seems legit, I looked at the seller's feedback & it should be good. Looked like some people paid with US $$ & received theres & I really love that dress!

Dress #2 is either the dress, or very similar to one my MOH wore at her wedding & its super amazing & beutiful.

Dress #3 is also pretty & looks good.

Do NOT keep dress hunting!! Don't research them, don't go into bridal shops, nothing. Just try on the 3 dresses at the girls night & maybe do a vote or see what they like about them. Have them take pictures of each in a few angles. Get a body length mirror & which one do YOU like the best? I'd advise to keep all 3 til after your wedding, just in case you switch.

& yea you've found GREAT deals!!! they're all really pretty, so go with which style you like the best :)

OMG YOUR THIRD DRESS IS MY WEDDING DRESS!! I am removing the bow and the top part under the lace is blush. It was SUPPOSED to be ivory with a blush sash but the company effed it up. I don't really care any more though...

Thank you bees! Sounds like all three dresses are affirmed by someone other than myself. I am looking forward to when the China Ebay dress gets here. I hope it helps others to make an informed decison about such inspired-custom gowns.

My soon -to-be groom would like to see me in something, "pretty and soft or lace." So, no matter what I pick, it will be fine.

Serabell, I agree, it is time to STOP shopping. :) For dresses at least.  . .

I have not paid attention to my "inner-girl" for so many years though. . . this is fun!

Hands down #2. Hopefully I'm wrong, but lace re-creations like #1 often go wrong and #3 looks some what crooked? Go w/ #2 - Beautiful!!!

I'm sorry you are having trouble finding a dress you like, but the idea of donating to Cinderella Project is wonderful! I volunteered with that program for several years, and it is a great seeing how happy it makes the girls.

The ebay china dress is HORRID. It was supposed to be custom sized to my measurements but arrived with a tag inside saying "Size 8." It was two inches too big in the bust, four inches too long, three inches too big in the waist and way too big in the hips, kind of assymetric and bunched up so that I look pregnant (no offense to anyone who is pregnant.) The sash was supposed to be ivory. It showed up ORANGE. The lace is cheap, itchy and glued together at the edges.

The worst part is the dress took so long to arrive from China it was after the ebay 60 day time period to file a resolution OR to even leave negative feedback. I have no options with paypal either. So I am out $188. Could have been worse, I suppose. I have tried to ask for a refund from the seller but he just replies in broken english. "I send beautiful dress. No problem."

Yes problem.  Just please avoid seller sexy-goddess10

Sorry about your bad ebay experience.  I avoid anything outside of the USA on ebay like the plague.  Why don't you have any options with PayPal?  did you pay through them?  I have always managed to file complaints and get my money back with PayPal, since they have such an individualized process.  I would still contact ebay anyway and tell them it's not YOUR fault that the 60 day period lapsed.  Maybe they will be understanding.  Raise hell and get what you can.

The good news is that you still have two pretty dresses to choose from, right?!

Before you do anything else, STOP LOOKING AT THEM!  hahahaha.  I myself am a 2 dress bride, but I had only put a deposit (which I got back) on the first one. Stop looking.... if you know that neither of the three you have is "the one", then sell them.... but even if you find more dresses that you like, it doesnt mean you have to buy them right then and there. Take some time to think about the dresses.
