Hi everyone, we decided to make 130 throwies in paper lanterns for our wedding which is around the corner. (July 12) I did some research on the bee boards to see where the best and cheapest places to find materials were but it was difficult to find info for shopping in Canada. We managed to figure it out and I’m here to share 🙂 I ordered my paper lanterns from Luna Bazaar, most of the paper lantern online stores charge the same amount per lantern but Luna Bazaar had the best shipping rates to canada. (25 bucks) We then ordered our batteries and lights from a company out of Toronto called LilyLED. They sell throwie kits all ready to go and they have the good LED’s for lanterns that are diffused. These cost .55 cents each! For the battery and LED light! Shipping was 12 dollars.
We were a little unsure of taking on this project, especially so late in the planning process but everything shipped to us within a week and it was super cost effective. Throwies are also very easy to put together, incase anyone is concerned about that part.
Hope this help some brides out there 🙂

Laurarose21: Nice! What are your wedding colours? Did you choose a certain colour for the lanterns?

Laurarose21: I feel dumb, what are throwies?

We chose grey as our wedding color but haven’t really stuck to it. It’s a back yard tent wedding with a rustic feel to it so I went with white lanterns and white lights.
Missveeinlove – don’t feel dumb! I didn’t know either. They are a an led light taped to a battery to make it light up, great for lighting lanterns on the cheap. If you search throwie on this site you’ll get some pretty in depth tutorials.

How about some helpful photos.
Supplies. A light and a battery.
Taped together. A throwie!
We added a couple pieces of card stock to create and on/off “switch”
I’m holding up a 6 inch white lantern with one throwie in it

Laurarose21: Hi Laura! I’m a canadian bride as well that is looking into the LilyLeds website for throwies! Just curious what colors you ordered?? Because I keep hearing that the white throwies can have a blue tint to them
