Love that idea! So creative :) I think the first one is perfect, without the fish and more tropical colors like you had mentioned. I think it would be perfect!
I think that this is a very unique idea and very cool for your venue! It might be very hard for any more than 1 or 2 people to be working on their fish at any time (I'm not sure how many people will be there...this could be a non-issue) so that would be the only concern. It sounds really awesome though. And just as a side note, have your BMs and GM do theirs first to give people an example of what they're supposed to do.
How about something like this, but with the top part a more beachy design? You still get something frameable, but it's a little less labor-intensive/confusing for your guests. I'm thinking of doing this, as well, albeit tweaking the colors.

I think it's a cute idea, but I'm not sure about it in real life. It would all depend on how messy it was. If people are all dressed up for the wedding, they may not want to be getting paint and ink all over themselves. I went to a wedding where the guests were supposed to use these rubber stamps to decorate their pages of the guest book and not that many people did it, I just assumed it was the mess they were worried about. Maybe a little finger bowl with lemon and some clothes next to the picture would help.
I love the idea! We are planning on doing the tree guest book, but I think an underwater scene would be perfect for a beachy wedding. How adorable!
Thanks for all the input! Glad no one thinks it's too silly because we thought for a while about this one! lol
We were definitely going to ask the WP and close family members to start it off. I found some cute little stamp pads perfect for fingerprints. They are all washable, so we'll have something for guest to clean up like @JerseyGirlLaur suggested! FI doesn't mind the work on the front end - he's happy he can contribute in his own way to the celebration.
@MsYellowJacket: Definitely have someone who knows what they're doing start off. I would have no clue how to put my thumbprint then draw a fin. I do better when I see an example. So either have an example there, or let someone good start first. But it's a great idea! :)
Have you looked on etsy.com? I saw a wedding guest "book" where people sign a surfboard...or another one that is a painting of two fish with bubbles, and people sign the bubbles.
@gc762: I looked through Etsy and loved some of the ideas. If it comes down to it, I may custom order something. The ones for sale now are a little small.
Here's my idea that I had in mind... I don't think it would be too difficult. I think our guests would have fun with it too. I mentioned it to a few people already.

What I like about the fish is there won't be any blank spots for fingerprints like on a tree. Also, it's not like we would run out of space if there's only a limited number of spots.
so cute. How about at least incorporating a veil and tie on a fish so we remember it is from your wedding?
Hi,
I had a destination wedding and also likes the thumprint idea, but it did not
fit my location so I sketched my own.

This is great beach guestbook

Hey ladies! Initially I decided not to have a guestbook. How many people actually go back and look at them throughout the years? Props to you if you do, but I personally would not!
Then I found the thumb print tree idea and I LOVE it! FI is very artistic and would be able to make one for us. However, the tree is nice and all, but we're getting married at the beach and I want it to tie into our theme!! What do you think of the following ideas? This is my first time actually writing out my thoughts. FI and I have discussed it - and he thinks it would be cool as well.
Instead of a tree, have a sea floor painting - something basic with sand, shells, and sea grass. Perhaps a few other creatures.... then the guest can stamp their print and draw a fin to create a fish! They could sign by their fish and then we could have a memorable piece of art to match our theme! What do you think? Here are a few inspiration photos.... but I still can't find anything to really resemble what I'm imagining....
Of course the background can't be too dark, so the stamp ink will show... and obviously there won't be any fish taking up space... I'm just kinda throwing ideas out there!
Thoughts? This is longer than I anticipated :)
I like the look of this first one, but I picture more tropical looking colors!
