My FH and I are getting married next June and we found the perfect restaurant at the top of an incline for our rehearsal dinner. They are booked for Friday night and we’re crushed because there’s nowhere else in the area that even comes close. Three of my bridesmaids and 2 of his groomsmen are from out of town but they’re far enough away that they’d have to take Friday off anyway to make it in for a Friday night rehearsal. What do you think I should do? Have it Thursday at the perfect place or Friday somewhere we don’t really like but may be more convenient for some?

lsfheid: where are you located? are there really absolutely no other good options in the area?

We are having a thursday rehearsal as our wedding is on friday, nobody has complained but I know some people won’t be able to make it.

lsfheid: But if you have it Thursday, wouldn’t they have to take off Thursday too? Surely, there is another option for Friday that is acceptable and everyone can make it?

I would go for it if you feel that strongly but manage your expectations of people. Not everyone may be able to make it/ not want to go if they work the next morning.

lsfheid: I would be royally peeved about having to take off an extra day. I don’t care how perfect it is, if you only get 2 weeks of vacation a year, that is asking people to take 10% of their annual vacation for the perfect venue. It also adds an extra night of hotel costs and expenses. If I were your bridesmaid, I would probably fly out for it (grumbling to myself, not you), but tell my husband to skip it and meet me there before the wedding.
Rehersal dinners don’t have to be perfect– I would absolutely make it as easy as possible for your friends and family.

future.mrs.koban: It’s in Johnstown, PA. It’s a very small city with very little to offer in the way of great dining, and the location/view is unmatched. Our parents live in Ligonier, PA about 40 minutes away which is a very quaint town with some good options but I think that’s a little too far from the church.

lsfheid: The wedding is on Saturday? So I have to pay for another night of hotel just so we can eat at a cool restuarant–no thank you. AND, I’m just sitting around on Friday waiting for your Saturday wedding. I would not be happy…

I guess you’re all right. My FH told me that nobody’s even going to remember the rehearsal dinner after they go to the reception so it shouldn’t matter. I’m sure you all know the feeling when you have something pictured a certain way in your head and it doesn’t work out.

lsfheid: ahh okay my FI’s family is from out that way. I’ve been to the French restaurant Brasserie Du Soleil in Ligonier and loved it. Honestly if I were attending your rehearsal I would rather have a bit of a drive between church and restaurant than to have to take a whole other day off. So if there are other options, even a bit of a drive away, I would research those in my opinion.

<br />What does this have to do with it? Wouldn’t that mean they’d have to ALSO take off Thursday to get to a Thursday night rehearsal? The rehearsal dinner is just, IMO, not that important. I would only have it on Thursday night if you’re okay with some of the bridal party not coming to the rehearsal (which is also not that big of deal, but I know to some brides it is).

I agree with the other bees. Hold it on Friday. Otherwise your guests have taken off of work to hang around Friday night for nothing. They’re going to be tired and just ready to eat after flying in and doing a rehearsal. They won’t care what it looks like, and its a huge inconvenience to make them take another day off. See what you can do about finding a location and making it nice if its important to you. It will never be that perfect spot, but you can make it special. You all will likely be excited and enjoying your time catching up regardless of the location.
